Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the conclusion of the challenging year that has been 2023, I want to update you on the progress and setbacks we have faced, particularly regarding the anticipated move to our new building. Originally scheduled for December 2022 and then for May 2023, unforeseen challenges arose when the company responsible for the construction was placed into voluntary administration, leading to delays in paperwork and proceedings. While we are optimistic about relocating to our new premises next year, my past experiences have instilled a sense of caution when it comes to construction timelines. We are persistently working towards this goal, keeping in mind the best interests of our students and their uninterrupted learning and extracurricular activities.
Speaking of which, I am pleased to assure you that our commitment to providing exceptional extracurricular activities remains unwavering. Drawing inspiration from elite schools in Australia, we are confident in the quality of our offerings. Looking ahead to 2024, we are geared up to intensify our extracurricular initiatives. Plans include the introduction of a Sports Academy catering to students interested in soccer, cricket, basketball, or rugby, allowing them to dedicate their efforts to one sport throughout the year. Additionally, our music lessons will be more concentrated, and enhanced facilities will be in place to support the athletic and academic pursuits of our students.
To further elevate academic standards, we are expanding our educators team and implementing measures to support students with high academic potential. This progress fills us with pride, and we remain committed to ongoing enhancements in both educational and extracurricular realms.
I invite you all to join us in celebrating the achievements of your children at the 2023 Award ceremony. Please check the specific day assigned for your child's ceremony. While all our students are valued, some have truly excelled, and these outstanding students will be recognized during the ceremony. We will be presenting awards for both values and academic achievements on that day, with additional recognitions taking place within the classrooms by our teachers. Let us express our gratitude to our dedicated teachers, whose continuous efforts contribute to the success of our students. Congratulations in advance to our students, and I look forward to sharing in the joy of their accomplishments.
In addition, do not forget to reserve your spot for the upcoming music event on November 24th, celebrating Turkish National Teachers Day. This is a free event and will be held at Bryan Brown Theatre, Bankstown, on 24 November 2023, at 8:00 pm: https://www.trybooking.com/CNBGC
Kind regards,

Looking at the Map!
KA students took the time to look at our big map and were very skilful at locating the animals and places on it. They really enjoyed this experience. I congratulate them for showing our Maarif values during this experience. They cooperated well and showed excellence in their behaviour. They asked the experience to be repeated.
Diagrams, graphs, and maps are visual texts that are fundamental to Geography. The construction of visual representations of geographical concepts and relationships supports student’s understanding of locations and directions.

Hands-on Learning Experiences
KC this fortnight has been engaging in lots of hands-on learning experiences. For our PBIS lessons, we have been working super hard on learning about one of our important Maarif values which is ‘Cooperation’. We worked in small groups and had to mimic and copy the leaders’ actions. This was a wonderful way to build our understanding on cooperation as it taught us the importance of teamwork, following instructions and working together to achieve a common goal. We have also been working super hard to form sentences using the correct punctuation, grammar and finger spaces which we have been incorporating in all Key Learning Areas. During P.E, Mr Yusuf arranged for KA to vs KC in a soccer competition to test out the skills that we have been learning in the past couple of weeks of Term 4. Great work to KC for working super hard!

Crazy Hair Day Fun
Our students had the opportunity to participate in Crazy Hair Day, showcasing their imaginative flair with remarkable hairstyles. From hair shaped like cupcakes and spooky spider designs to vibrant, colourful strands and enchanting mermaid looks adorned with beads and glitter, we had lots of fun showing our hairstyles to our friends and raising donations.

Speaking and Listening
This week we practised our speaking skills in front of the audience. Every student had a turn to talk about their weekends. They told us where they went, what they did and with whom they were together. The other students were required to listen carefully and ask questions if they wanted to. This activity allows us to communicate with increasing confidence in a range of contexts; and engage in conversations and discussions, using active listening behaviours, showing interest, and contributing ideas, information and questions.

Diving into Van Gogh's World with Watercolours
In a delightful exploration of art, our Year 2 class recently delved into the world of watercolour painting, drawing inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh's famous ‘Wheatfield with Cypresses.’ The children started by observing the distinct style of Van Gogh, particularly his use of vibrant swirls and bold colours.
Each student created their own artwork, infused with their individuality yet reflecting a touch of Van Gogh's influence!

Reverse Garbage Workshop
In the past week, our students participated in a captivating Reverse Garbage Workshop. This hands-on experience allowed them to explore the world of sustainability and creativity. Guided by the principle of repurposing materials, our budding architects and environmental enthusiasts worked together to construct sustainable houses and gardens using recycled materials. The creativity and ingenuity displayed by our young learners were truly inspiring. This workshop not only promoted environmental awareness but also fostered teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Time Mastery!
In mathematics, our young learners tackled the concept of time. From reading analogue clocks to mastering digital time, the class embraced the challenge. The practical applications of this knowledge were reinforced through engaging activities and interactive exercises. This newfound skill not only enhances their mathematical proficiency but also equips them for real-world timekeeping.

Water Erosion
Students were required to pair up and research images of rock landforms that were impacted by water erosion. They were required to use their research skills to find the name of the rock they had chosen. Additionally, students used their knowledge of erosion and weathering to answer questions about their chosen rock.

Discovering Sustainability Through Time: Diary Insights from Aboriginal Hunter-Gatherers
4B students recently embarked on a unique journey into history with the "Hunter-Gatherers – Diary Entry" task. Guided by their newfound knowledge about caring for country and place in sustainable ways, the students skilfully incorporated their insights, recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as experts in sustainable living.
The diary entries vividly painted a picture of daily life, seamlessly blending past and present tenses. Inspired by their understanding of these indigenous communities, students highlighted the deep connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with their Country/Place, emphasising the principles of taking only what is needed from the land and water and adapting to their environment. These entries not only showcased historical insights but also reflected a newfound appreciation for sustainable living practices that our students can carry forward into the future. Here, we proudly present snippets from some outstanding work, echoing the vibrant spirit of exploration that thrives at our school.

Reverse Garbage Workshop
Year 5 students had a productive day in a sustainable workshop, learning about the importance of recycling and reusing in our day-to-day lives through a hands-on experience. They built a model home using provided items to demonstrate the significance of recycled materials and the positive impact they can have on sustainability. It was an engaging and insightful activity that fostered environmental awareness among our students.
In science, students are also exploring the fascinating topic of Earth's layers, exploring the significance and meanings behind each layer. This exploration not only enhances their understanding of the Earth's structure but also deepens their appreciation for the interconnectedness of our planet's natural systems. As they discover the dynamic processes shaping our Earth, students are developing a sense of environmental responsibility, recognizing the need to preserve and protect the delicate balance that sustains life on our planet.

Welcome to Week 6 of Term 4!
I hope that all students have been able to settle in well and are excited to be back for another amazing week. Just a reminder that students must be in their summer uniform for Term 4 girls must wear navy stockings if they are wearing their summer dress. Students in kindergarten till year 6 have started soccer training with the soccer coach Mr Yusufhan at the courts across the school. Soccer lessons this term align with our PDH theory lessons about practising respect and working as a team. One of the case studies that we have been looking at has been working as a unity. These soccer lessons improve students' practical skills and enhance knowledge about safer physical participation.
Here are some photos of students participating in practical soccer lessons.

Mapping a Place
In our Visual Art classes this term, students explore symbolically mapping locations. We delve into how artists portray surroundings through paintings and public sculptures. Students delve into Aboriginal symbols used in paintings, interpreting their meanings. After understanding these symbols, students use them to craft narratives and map out places. Check out some snapshots of us beginning our artwork!

Seasons
We discussed seasons with kindergarten students and talked about what happens as the seasons change. In autumn, leaves turn yellow and fall. In spring, flowers bloom. During the summer season, we can go to the sea and swim. We wrote down the seasons in the booklet. In math class, they learned the Turkish equivalents of mathematical terms. While doing operations on the board, we performed Turkish addition and subtraction by saying, "5 plus 2 equals 7." I checked and, if necessary, rewrote it according to English grammar rules.

This week in Turkish KC Students learned about different weather events and things we see in the sky. We focused on rainbows and how they are formed in the sky. They Listed different things we see in the sky and we talked about how those things affect our lives. Great work KC!
Years 3 and 4
This week in Turkish Years 3 and 4 learned about hobbies and collecting data. They discussed different hobbies in the class and went around asking their friends and teachers what their hobbies were. They then collected the data in a tally graph and rated each hobby from most to least popular. Keep up the great work everyone!
Years 5 and 6
This week Years 5 and 6 wrote letters to important Turkish figures. They wrote a letter to Mehmet Akif Ersoy asking him questions about Turkiye during that time and anything they wanted to know about the national anthem. Students also played a game called ‘isim şehir’. A traditional game played amongst friends to come up with words about various categories using the same letter. Amazing job everyone.

Arabic Vocabularies
This week we have been learning how to draw a house and get familiar with the Arabic vocabularies related to it. Kids love to draw and pay extra attention to Arabic during the lessons. We talked about the different parts of the house and the different colours we used during the lesson. Hopefully, we will have a young artist who draws and plan different design using the Arabic language.

All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and all those who follow him.
“This is the Book of Allah, there is no doubt in it; it is a guide for those who are pious” (Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 2)
Our Primary students were reciting, practising, and memorising assigned Surahs which were displayed on the smartboard.
We pray that Allah (SWT) makes us of those who read the Qur’an correctly, understand it and act upon it.

QUICKSMART Numeracy Lessons
I am grateful for the comments that the classroom teachers have been providing me regarding the student’s performances in class. We believe that learning should have a fun approach as this has proven to be more beneficial for students. Our lessons involve multiplication, addition, subtraction and division and engage our students in an educational way.
Our students receive a QuickSmart award as a reward when they answer 40 or more flashcards correctly in 60 seconds. After getting 3 QuickSmart awards, they will get a value card after getting 3 value cards, they will get a gift from me.
This motivates students to always excel to get the awards.

Holidays taken by students outside of School vacation periods are included as absences.
Families are encouraged to holiday or travel during school vacations rather than in term time. If travel during the school term is necessary, the following considerations apply:
- If the Principal accepts the reason for the absence, the absence will be marked as justified leave.
- If the Principal does not believe the absence is in the student’s best interests and does not accept the reason, the absence will be recorded as unjustified leave.
The Leave form can be accessed below:

Maarif students are expected to wear their Summer school uniform during Term 1. Please be reminded of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s name and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.
We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.
- It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
- It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
- It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
- It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
- It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.
