Dear Parents and Carers,
Warm greetings to all of you! As we embark on a new journey into Term 3, I am delighted to share with you some updates and important information about the upcoming academic session. As we enter Term 3, our commitment to providing the best possible education remains unwavering. Some highlights include:
Academic Focus: Our teachers have been preparing engaging and enriching lessons to challenge and stimulate our students. We will continue to focus on individualized learning to cater to the diverse needs and learning styles of each student.
Extracurricular Activities: We firmly believe that a well-rounded education involves not just academics but also participation in extracurricular activities. We have an array of clubs, sports, and cultural activities planned for students to explore their interests and talents.
Parent-Teacher Interviews: We encourage open communication and collaboration between parents and teachers. Parent-teacher interviews will be scheduled at the end of the term to discuss your child's progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. We value your insights and active involvement in your child's education.
School Events: We have a lineup of exciting events and celebrations planned for this year, including The 100thAnniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, music concerts, end of year award ceremony and academic competitions. Your presence and encouragement at these events will undoubtedly motivate our students.
Lastly, I want to express the significance of adherence to the school's rules and regulations, including our uniform policy. Proper school uniforms play a crucial role in creating a sense of belonging and discipline among students. Recently, we have noticed some concerns regarding the condition of some students' uniforms. It is important to emphasize the importance of correct and representable school uniforms. Our school uniform policy clearly outlines the expectations which includes:
- Uniform Fit: The uniform should be of an appropriate size, neither too small nor too large, ensuring that students are comfortable and able to focus on their studies without distractions.
- No Tears or Rips: Students should not wear uniforms with tears or rips, as it not only creates a dishevelled appearance but also sends a negative message about the importance of respecting our school's rules.
- Cleanliness: It is essential that students come to school with clean uniforms. Wearing dirty uniforms can give the impression of neglect and does not reflect positively on our school community.
We kindly request your cooperation in ensuring that your child's uniform complies with these guidelines. We understand that children can be active and accidents may occur, but we encourage you to promptly address any uniform-related issues to maintain a proper representation of our school.
When students come to school in correct and representable uniforms, it sets a positive example for their peers and fosters a sense of pride in belonging to Maarif.
As we work together to create a nurturing and respectful learning environment, I would like to thank you for your continued support in upholding our school uniform policy.
As always, if you have any concerns, questions, or suggestions, my office is open to address them. Your feedback is invaluable in our pursuit of continuous improvement.
Let us work together to make Term 3 a resounding success for our students. I am looking forward to another fantastic term at Maarif.
Kind regards,
Primary School Coordinator's Message
Dear Maarif Parents/Carers,
Welcome to Term 3!
As we kickstart the new term at Maarif, I would like to emphasise the importance of punctuality at our school in ensuring a smooth and productive learning environment for all our students.
Punctuality is an important life skill that lays the foundation for success in students’ lives. Being punctual allows students to settle into the classroom routine on time and ensures that they get the most out of their learning opportunities and experiences throughout the day. Research shows that students with consistent school attendance learn more. Arriving late to school can be disruptive for children, peers and teachers, especially when the lesson has to stop for them to enter the classroom.
As partners in your child’s education, we request your support in ensuring that your child arrives to school on time by 8:45am every day. Preparing everything your child needs for school the night before and a consistent morning routine will avoid last minute rushes in the morning. If there are challenges that may affect punctuality, please let us know as we are here to support all our families.
On a different note, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate students who have achieved remarkable results in their National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests. All students are to be commended for their efforts and improved results. NAPLAN results inform our planning and help us in addressing areas needing more improvement.
Students will engage in various exciting activities throughout the term. Stay tuned for these events and announcements in the following weeks and mark the dates found in the 'Important Dates' section of this newsletter in your diaries.
With warm regards,
Mrs Reyhan Er
Primary School Coordinator

Dot Painting Time!
Kindergarten students had so much fun experimenting with dot painting on the Sydney Opera House image. This relates to our topic in Geography where students investigate and identify the places they live in and belong to and discuss why places are special. KA students incorporated the technique of Aboriginal art painting on this iconic special building. Painting in kindergarten can be incorporated into learning about different places and landscapes. We can use children’s creativity by providing an array of vivid colours just waiting to be explored.

Sunset at Uluru
A big hello and welcome to all our new students. We're super happy to have you in our class!
In Term 3, we're going to learn about cool places in our HSIE (geography) lessons. This week, we looked at Uluru. The kids in KC class loved painting pictures of Uluru at sunset. They were amazed to find out it would take 30 hours of non-stop driving or 5 days of non-stop biking to get there from Maarif. That's a really long way! This was a fun way to talk about our 'length' topic in our number lessons.
For P.E. this term, the little ones in kindergarten will keep playing cricket. They had a blast doing the warm-up games.
We can't wait for all the fun and learning coming up this term!

Trivia Questions
Students from class 1A participated in an interactive maths activity as a class. They did this on the smart board, took turns and encouraged each other. As students have begun exploring shapes, symmetry and the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. Students took turns answering the trivia questions and enjoyed the bonus rounds. Students were able to answer the questions correctly, demonstrating the knowledge they have gained in prior lessons.

Cricket Fundamentals
This week and last week we focused on getting to know each other and played some games.
We rememberd what we have learned in each subject in Term 2 and continued where we left off. We learned some new techniques in English and Maths and continued to develop our comprehension skills.
We continue with cricket sessions in PE on Tuesdays at the court across the road. We learn the fundamentals of cricket and try to throw the ball with the bat and run to the other side.

Exciting Start to Term 3!
Welcome back to school everyone! We hope you had an invigorating and refreshing Term 2 break and are now ready to jump straight back into your studies and extracurricular activities.
This term is set to be a magnificent one, with so many exciting events and activities lined up for everyone to get involved in.
The students of 3A are actively engaging in a typing program that is designed to enhance their typing skills and speed. With the increasing use of technology in today's world, typing proficiency has become an essential skill for students to possess. The program incorporates interactive lessons, games, and timed exercises to develop their typing accuracy and efficiency. Students are motivated to practice regularly as they can see their progress through various metrics such as words per minute and error rates.

In a fun and interactive math game, students are given the opportunity to master the skill of rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000. Engaged in this game, students are presented with various numbers and are required to round them off to the nearest tens, hundreds, or thousands. Through this game, students not only develop a solid understanding of the concept but also enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. By providing an enjoyable learning experience, this math game encourages active participation and empowers students to confidently navigate the world of numbers.

Map Reading
Term 3 has commenced with the receiving of our NAPLAN results from the tests conducted earlier last term. Students approached their results with a constructive mindset, identifying areas where greater efforts would be required. Regarding our classwork, 3B have explored the mathematical concepts of place value and the related topic of rounding numbers. In terms of HSIE, we have begun exploring Australian Geography and reading basic maps. Map reading is an often-neglected skill in our modern contexts.

Achieving Goals
4A started off the term in a very meaningful manner. They collated a list of personal goals and used these to generate general class goals. Each table wrote their goals on a large piece of paper decorating it and adding examples of how the goals can be achieved. They ensured it was legible and aesthetically pleasing, as it is going to be hung up around the class as motivation and a reminder of the goals they are working towards.

Academic Journey
4B kicked off the start of their term in an inspiring and goal-oriented manner. During the first week, the class came together to prepare ambitious objectives for each subject, fostering a sense of camaraderie and collective responsibility for their academic journey. They also took the initiative to establish their own individual goals, recognizing their own unique strengths and aspirations. The classroom walls now proudly display their carefully crafted goals, serving as a daily reminder of their commitment to success. This empowering approach not only promotes self-awareness and motivation but also fosters a supportive learning environment where each student's growth is celebrated and encouraged. As the year progresses, the students of 4B are well on their way to achieving their dreams and unlocking their fullest potential.

Interactive Games
I hope the students have enjoyed their school holidays! It is exciting to be back in the classroom and ready to learn for term 3. At Maarif we believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching and in line with this philosophy, our students have been incorporating some interactive math games in the classroom to cultivate their interest in numbers and problem-solving. We have started this term by introducing factors and multiples. Students have been engaging in interactive games within the classroom to support these math problems. I encourage you to join in the maths activities at home and enhance your child’s skills in maths.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio
Welcome back to Term 3! We are excited to have students back and hope everyone had a restful winter Holiday. We are excited for another fun and adventurous term ahead with the students.
This term students in our English unit will be studying the concept of positive and negative relationships in a school environment. In week 1 students started analysing the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Students explored the core concepts and values that are reflected in the novel. Students in class were given the opportunity to have a friendly creative completion in creating a new cover for the book. In class having friendly competition allows students to be motivated and allow students to enhance their creative skills.
Here are some photos of students' work samples that they created.

Geographical features of Asia!
Asia being such a large continent has a diverse range of geographical features. Students completed a research task to start off our geography unit for the term to identify and name geographical features of Asia and their country along with labelling them on the map of Asia. They all managed to impress me with their curiosity and level of general knowledge!

Welcome to Term 3!
This week in Turkish lessons we did some revision-based based interactive activities to jog students' memories and begin this term’s new topics. Years 5 and 6 were asked to write short essays about their holidays and discuss what they have done over their holiday with their peers. Years 3 and 4 did a matching activity where they matched up the names of items found at school and their names. We then got started on learning the names of vegetables in Turkish in preparation for our next topic.

Surah Al Ikhlas
This week we learn and recite Surat (Al Ikhlas). we explain the meaning of the surah using our hand posture to deliver the meaning of the words in a very simple explanation to suit the age of the students.
Students love to use their hands when reciting Al Quran Al Kareem. It will help them to engage and focus on the lesson. It will also help them to understand the meaning of the words.
During our Quran lesson, we always revise (Surat Al Fatiha) as it is the most important surah in the Quran that we must recite in our daily prayers.

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullahi wa barakatuh,
All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and all those who follow him.
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others.”
Students were reciting, practising, and memorising chapters (Surah) which were displayed on the smartboard.
We pray that Allah (SWT) allows our students to keep the Qur’an in the centre of their lives and let the Book of Allah be the light of their hearts.

Maarif students are expected to wear their Summer school uniform during Term 1. Please be reminded of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s name and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.
We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.
- It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
- It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
- It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
- It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
- It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.
Parent-Teacher Communication
When communicating with teachers, please try to be respectful of their time and understand that they may not always be able to respond immediately. This means, giving them a reasonable amount of time to respond to your emails or messages, and understanding their work hours.
Please avoid sending multiple follow-up messages when not receiving a response immediately, teachers have many responsibilities.
Written Communications
Written communications to the school, including emails and letters, please include student's full name and class for identification purposes
Phone & Electronics
Primary School students are not permitted to bring to school, their phones and/or any electronics. This includes smart watches.
Birthday Celebrations
We love to celebrate our students at Maarif and accept that some families may want to share the special occasion of their child’s birthday with his/her class peers. As a school, we embrace this opportunity however would like to enforce a strict policy of not bringing in food or other edible items for these one-off occasions. It is important we cater to all students including those who have severe allergies by monitoring this closely. If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday, we would suggest an alternative to food.
School Permission Notes
All school permission notes must be returned by the due date that is on the note. In the case where signed notes are not received by the due date, students may not be able to attend.
All permission notes must always be returned to the class teacher and not the school office. Hard copies can be sent in with students or soft copies can be emailed to class teachers directly.
We are no longer accepting cash payments for excursions. Please use the link or QR code provided in the permission notes for payments.
Toys and Valuables
Students are not permitted to bring toys and valuables to school. These include Pokemon cards, fidget toys and weapon like toys. Students are only permitted to bring in appropriate toys on allocated Show and Tell days. Please check with your child's class teacher if unsure.
We request that our parents and/or carers are extra cautious during school drop off and pick up times.
Please ensure NSW Government rules regarding road safety are being followed and adhered to at all times.
This means:
- Respecting the road rules and signs, and driving within the speed limit of 40km/h in a school zone.
- Parking safely in designated parking areas or in drop off/pick up zones.
- No double parking, as it is dangerous and illegal.
- Three point turns and U-turns are not permitted in school zones, as not only is it dangerous for students and other vehicles but also causes traffic congestion.
- Follow the directions of our school crossing supervisors.
- Give way to our School Bus drivers.
Thank you for your cooperation.
We have many items including school uniform, lunch boxes and water bottles in our lost property baskets. Please be advised that all these items will be thrown out if not claimed. The lost property baskets will be located in the office area. Please clearly label all items with your child's name, surname and class.

According to ACARA National Standards for student attendance, parents are required to complete an Application for Leave Form for holidays within the school term or other leave. Applications should be submitted 14 days prior to the leave. The Principal approves this leave as appropriate.
For all student leave requests (1-50 days) an application form should be submitted to the school at least 14 days prior to the requested leave date. Supporting documentation, such as travel ticket or itinerary, should be included with student holiday leave applications.
Holidays taken by students outside of School vacation periods are included as absences.
Families are encouraged to holiday or travel during school vacations rather than in term time. If travel during the school term is necessary, the following considerations apply:
- If the Principal accepts the reason for the absence, the absence will be marked as justified leave.
- If the Principal does not believe the absence is in the student’s best interests and does not accept the reason, the absence will be recorded as unjustified leave.
