As Term 1 draws to a close, we contemplate a start to 2023 which has presented us with a challenging return to learning onsite but has also demonstrated, yet again, that some events can be enormously unpredictable.
Challenges bring us together in unexpected ways. They can draw us closer, as a family or community, and remind us of how much we really do love, appreciate, and rely on each other. Thank you to all our families supporting us during these difficult times.
Ramazan Eid (Bayram) is on 21 April, during the school holidays. It is celebrated across the world for its deeply spiritual significance "You shall complete the number (of days) and you may glorify Allah for his guiding you, and that you may be thankful" (in chapter 2, verse 185). Happy Eid! Bayramınız Kutlu Olsun!
We teach our students our values . These values easily transfer to academic, co-curricular and sport settings because the concepts are, not only fundamental to Maarif, but are integral to our human existence.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all an enjoyable and restful break with the people you love – your family and friends – whether they are near or far. I hope you enjoy the rest that a holiday period often brings, and I look forward to seeing you refreshed in Term 2.
Monday Assembly - Student of the Week
Well done to the students who have been selected as 'Student of the Week' during our Monday morning assemblies. These students are selected for academic achievement and for modelling our school values.

KA Harmony Day
This fortnight Maarif celebrated Harmony Day, it was a beautiful day filled with accepting diversity, collaborating as a school whilst doing many activities that allowed students to gain knowledge about other cultures. KA students came to school wearing lovely outfits that reflected their culture and showed pride in doing the parade in front of the school.

Playdough time!
KA students got involved in handling playdough whilst making various figures. Some made stethoscopes pretending to be doctors. Others made snails to relate it back to our science topic “Living Things” and others made birthday cakes.
Through these manipulations, children develop eye-hand coordination, the ability to match hand movement with eye movement. They also gain strength and improve dexterity in their hands and fingers, critical areas of physical development for writing, drawing, and other purposes.

Living and Non-living Things
In our science lessons this term we have been exploring living and non-living things. To make this learning experience more interactive and engaging, we decided to grow grass heads.
Our students were thrilled to have the opportunity to watch their grass seeds grow and took great care to water them regularly to keep them alive. As the grass began to grow, the students added googly eyes and arms to their grass heads, making the experience more fun and exciting.
Overall, this activity has been a great way to teach our students about the characteristics of living things and what living things need to grow. We are delighted to see how enthusiastic our students have been about this project and look forward to more such experiences in the future.

Harmony Day
On Wednesday 22nd March 2023, we celebrated Harmony Day.
The meaning behind Harmony Day celebration is understanding our diversity and how it makes Australia a great place to live. Harmony Week is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a week of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
The message for Harmony Week is everyone belongs, and the week aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster a sense of belonging for everyone.
Students participated in many activities including lessons and discussions surrounding what Harmony Day represents and embodies. This included an outdoor assembly that showcased and celebrated the wonderful cultural diversity within our school community. To show our support for inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians students, teachers and staff participated by wearing the colour orange and some wore their cultural clothing. Elifsu Cifci from our class was one of the stydents to win the ‘best dressed award.’
The students at the assembly were amazing and they highlighted the beauty of the many different cultures represented, A wonderful feeling of harmony and inclusiveness was present.

The prefects for 1B are Atilla Aydin and Sena Alca. Congratulations! My students of the week are Timurhan Mengi and Sena Alca and my student corners are Eren Acar and Muhammad Sobhie.

Have Fun and Build Strength!
As part of our PDHPE unit, students are exploring self-discovery and skills involving resilience and strength. As part of this focus, Year 2 students were provided with the opportunity to apply and develop a greater understanding of their strengths and achievements first-hand during our excursion to the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym.

That’s the end of Term 1!
We have reached the end of Term 1 and what a term it has been! Year 3 has come a long way since the start of the term. Friendships have been forged between students and a sense of social responsibility has been instilled in them. Their academic progress has also been very good, with many students making improvements in their knowledge acquisition and retention.
"Code For Life" is an activity that we regularly complete in class. It introduces the students to various concepts and skills associated with coding.

Maths Class Challenge
During week 7 students explored the concept of 3D shapes and the different properties of different 3D shapes. Students in class built different 3D shapes during their Maths lesson so they can identify the different properties of shapes such as prisms, pyramids, and spheres. Students used their sensory elements such as touch and visualisation to be able to build the different 3D shapes so that they can better understanding of the different properties of the shape. Hands on activities such as building allow students to use their critical thinking skills and visualisation skills to build different shapes. The students also competed against each other to see who can build the quickest shape and had the most decorated shape using graphic skills.
Here are some photos of the different shapes that students created.

Wow Work Artwork
This term Year 6B students took the time to understand the works of artists who have used musical instruments as subject matter in their works. They focused on the art movement Cubism which was pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. We discussed the ways that artists began to look at subjects in new ways in an effort to depict three dimensions on a flat canvas. They did so by breaking up the subject into many different shapes and then repaint them from different angles. For this, students worked on their own artwork as part of their portfolio task. Each student showcased their creative side in many ways including through their choice of colour, positioning and perspective. Well done 6B!

I would also like to take the moment to wish you all a wonderful and restful break ahead and Eid Mubarak to you and your family from now! Hope to see you all very soon again for Term 2!

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullahi wa barakatuh,
All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and to all those who follow him.
Alhamdulillah, as believers having faith and trust in Allah, we have overcome a very challenging term in which I would like to thank all parents and guardians for all their help and supporting our students throughout the term.
All students in primary had different types of Ramadan craft artwork project tasks to do this term. Maash’Allah our students are very creative, and they were all decorative and amazing.
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others.”
Students were reciting, practising, and memorising chapters (Surah) and Dua’s which was displayed on the smartboard.
We pray that Allah (SWT) allows our students to keep the Qur’an in the centre of their lives and let the Book of Allah be the light of their hearts.

Maarif students are expected to wear their Summer school uniform during Term 1. Please be reminded of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s name and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.
We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.
- It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
- It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
- It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
- It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
- It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.
