Throughout the unit, students have learnt about the various techniques used by directors to create meaning and invoke emotion from viewers. They have also been learning about the processes of characterisation and narrative structure, implementing this knowledge through the writing of PEEL paragraphs. Year 7 will be sitting their yearly examination on Tuesday, 22 November and will be assessed on their Term 3 unit ‘Drama’ as well as this term’s unit ‘Film Study: Finding Nemo’.

World Liveability
Year 7 students were taught what the term "liveability" meant. The ability of a place to support our needs and desires for a better quality of life that maximizes residents' wellbeing is referred to as world liveability.
People want to live in neighbourhoods where they can raise their children. They want to have a variety of housing options close to recreational activities, shops, and services.
The students discovered that a "place" is a portion of the earth's surface that has been named and given meaning by humans. Our most familiar places are frequently those where we live.
Personal Geography
Year 8 learned in Geography this term that we all have an impact on our surroundings, that we shape our local environment, and that we are all part of a large social network that shapes our "personal geography"- the way we view and make sense of the world around us.
We concentrated on people's perceptions of place and how this influences their connections to various places, such as the process of cultural diffusion and adaptation, as well as the impact of travel on both the person undertaking the journey and those who live in the places visited.
Year 7
In Mathematics we were learning about indices and how to write in index notation, expanded form and basic numerals.
Year 8
In Mathematics, we are learning about equations and how to solve problems in real life.

In addition, during TAS classes students are working on a Portfolio.

Year 8
Year 8 students have been participating in an Engineering workshop for two week. The program allows students to work with “industry-standard” and “real” mechanical, electronics, and software components to design, build, and program their robot. Students are learning to work with metal chassis, drive trains, timing-belts, sensors, and real tools such as screw-drivers, allen keys, spanners, wrench, pliers, etc. to construct their own robot. In addition, students will also learn electronic control systems to power their mechanical robot as well as coding to make it all work. It goes without saying that students will also learn soft-skills such as leadership, collaboration, problem solving, project/time management, strategy, etc. While all students will learn the basics of mechanical, electronics, and software programming to begin with, students will have the option to specialise in one of these areas depending on their interest.
In addition, during TAS classes, students are working on Term 4 Portfolio.

Year 7 Qur’an & Islamic Studies
Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullahi wa barakatuh,
All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and to all those who follow him.

Year 7 students have double Qur’an lessons a week. Our students have weekly assigned homework pages recorded in their ‘Qur’an student record book’. This way both Teacher and Parent can monitor and keep track of the work. All Year 7 students are memorising Surah Shams this term and will be assessed on this in week 7 and 8.
We pray that Allah (SWT) allows our students to keep the Qur’an in the centre of their lives and let the Book of Allah be the light of their hearts.

Students were encouraged to wear their favourite team jersey on the day and participate in soccer matches. They also had an extended lunch break as physical activity is known for improving ones mental health.
Thank you to Mr Abdel-Ghani, our Welfare Coordinator, for running this initiative.

Students are working very well as a team. They are refining their teambuilding skills, working collaboratively, leadership skills, researching skills, note taking, public speaking skills, reasoning and confidence.
Year 7 and 8 students participated in an anti-vaping workshop.
Tanya Cavanagh from NotEvenOnce, Inc. led an anti-vaping workshop for high school students. She provided the students with valuable information about the dangers of vaping. The vaping seminar was 60 minutes long.
She explained that the e-cigarette aerosol that users inhale, and exhale may contain harmful or potentially harmful substances such as nicotine. Ultrafine particles can get deep into the lungs if inhaled. Flavourings like diacetyl, which has been linked to a serious lung disease. Overall, there isn't much of a distinction between smoking and vaping. Because the product was burned and the resulting smoke was inhaled into the lungs, smoking was widely thought to be more dangerous. However, we are discovering very similar harm from heating up vaping solutions and inhaling the vapour into the lungs.

All uniform purchases can be made as follows:
High School Students – Faz Uniforms Pty Ltd
- High school uniforms will no longer be available from the school uniform shop
- Parents and students can purchase high school uniforms directly from Faz Uniforms Pty Ltd.
- Faz Uniforms Contact Details:
- Address: 15/364 Park Road, Regents Park 2143
- Phone: 02 9644 7999
- Hours: 9am to 4pm weekdays and 9:30am to 11:30am Saturdays
Maarif students are expected to wear their Summer school uniform during Term 4. Please be reminded of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s name and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.
We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.
- It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
- It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
- It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
- It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
- It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.
On behalf of Maarif, we would like to wish our students a very Happy Birthday who have celebrated their birthday during the month of November and December:
