We Are Multiplying and Sharing
KA students have been practicing and mastering the skill of multiplying and sharing objects. The students got into pairs and put the counters into groups as well as divided them into half. Each pair received different amounts of counters where students had a turn of demonstrating this skill. It was a great experience for them as they had the opportunity to understand this concept kinesthetically.
Hands on experiences allow students to gain knowledge of the topic or concept they are studying through experience. This allows students to engage in the subject matter with their hands and create something or solve a problem. They can touch and manipulate the objects they are learning about.

WHAT AM I?
As a facilitator of student learning, it is imperative that I provide my students with numerous opportunities during the day to socialise with their peers. By socialising, students develop important skills such as empathy, teamwork and confidence. Friendships are fostered through socialisation which also has a significant positive impact on student learning and motivation in school.
Students in Kindergarten B enjoy playing ‘What Am I?” following their completion of certain tasks in class during the day!

The Rainbow Serpent
Students have been learning about maps in Geography. During this unit students explored that Aboriginal people used maps just as we do however, they use different symbols to what we are used to seeing on a map. Students became familiar with different map symbols Aboriginal people use. Students read The Rainbow Serpent by Dick Roughsey and discussed the different features they saw throughout the book. Following this, students decorated a Serpent with Aboriginal symbols that reflected the people and places represented in the book.

Year 1 students had an exciting two weeks of taekwondo where they had the opportunity to use nunchucks and break boards with their kicks. Students were able to demonstrate their knowledge of kicks and boxing techniques. Well done Year 1!

We also celebrated Narin’s 7th birthday, thank you Narin for bringing in delicious cupcakes for the whole class ?

Places Are Similar and Different

Students were involved in team building activities, where they were dividing into group 3-4 students and did bug catching, net fishing and creating beach habitat for turtles. Students also had an opportunity to understand the importance of environment and how it supports the lives of people and other living things and learn ways they can help to achieve sustainability.

Keeping eSafe
Students of Year 5 have been learning about risk taking behaviour and where there can be positive and negative effects of this behaviour. The emphasis has been on making good choices and being positive members of a community. Students engaged in online activities to demonstrate their awareness of safe road rules using the Safety Town website.
In addition to this, students attended an online incursion by the eSafety Commissioner called , ‘Be an eSafe Kid: Be Safe, Be Supportive’. Students discovered what it means to be safe online through setting safe personal boundaries, supporting one another and most importantly, given information of help-seeking strategies if anything was to arise. Students showed an admirable level of maturity and were aware and implementing some of the information and reporting skills already.

Celebrating Child Protection Week
As part our PDH program in line with National Child Protection Week Year 6 have been taking part in activities to commemorate National Child Protection Week (NCPW). NCPW is an annual initiative based on the principle that ‘protecting children is everyone’s business. This aims to raise awareness about the complexity of child protection and empower the community to work together to prevent cases of child neglect and abuse from occurring.
Students have dedicated time during PDH to design and create informative campaigns to raise awareness for child protection and help show that protecting children is about working together.
Here are some amazing works produced by year 6 students.

Just a friendly reminder,
For families who are planning to take leave, please ensure to follow the proper process. Parents/Guardians must fill out the Student Extended Absence Application Form, attached below, in advance as well as providing the supporting documentation. When completed, please email the form and documents to admin@maarif.nsw.edu.au. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact the school office.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Maarif students are expected to wear their winter school uniform during Terms 2 and 3. Please be reminded of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s name and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.
Uniform Shop will be open every Wednesday during school term from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.
- It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
- It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
- It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
- It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
- It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.

Two items of jewellery, watch face, glasses and a boxing glove was found, please contact the front office on 1800 622 743.
It is kindly requested that any homework or school assignment printing should be completed at home and not requesed from the school office.
