Congratulations to Year 4 for receiving the Star Trophy!

Also, Congratulations to the students who received Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards. Keep up the amazing effort!

Let’s Make Dough!
KA were very excited to put together some ingredients to make playdough as a class. They were able to work as a team to add, pour and mix the components to form a nice consistency of dough. They added their own choice of food colouring to their work and moulded some really interesting figures. This lesson related to our science topic “Moving Things”. The students understood the concept of changing the shape and form of something by moving them around. It was a very successful lesson.

House Craft Activity
Students in Kindergarten were keen to complete this craft activity relating to the letter H. Cross-curricula links were also made with specific references to mathematical concepts such as shapes and sizes.

Exploring 2D Shapes
In Maths this fortnight, students enjoyed learning and consolidating their knowledge about 2D Shapes. Year 1 played a shape hunt board game, where they had to name the 2D Shape they landed on and fill out a tally graph showing how many times they landed on each shape. Shapes are all around us! Students enjoyed creating their very own 2D shape person. This task required students to draw and cut out different 2D Shapes. Great work Year 1!

Exploring our 5 Senses
Year 1 students in science enjoyed using their 5 senses to explore the environment around our school. Students went for a walk around the netball court and listed different things that they could hear, see and feel. After exploring our surroundings students picked up 1 stick and 1 leaf. These were taken back to class and students explored them with their 5 senses.

Continents and Oceans
In Geography, students have been learning about continents and the oceans. Students were on task colouring and labelling the continents and oceans. In each continent, they drew one or two things that are special to it. The Year 2 students really enjoyed this activity and impressed me with their knowledge about continents.

Uluru Art
For geography this term, Year 3 students have been exploring Australia as a continent, country and island. While learning about the different states and territories, students also investigated Australia’s most iconic landmark, Uluru. As part of our lessons, students created their very own artwork showcasing the magnificent landmark, using techniques often used in Indigenous artworks. Students used different art mediums to achieve the final look of their artwork including oil pastels, food colouring and paint. Students were very proud of the stunning work that they produced.

Let’s Animate!
Year 4 students are focusing on animation and comic writing in English. This week, students were so excited to share their ideas in flipbook form. Everyone planned out their ideas, drew them on flipbooks and shared animations. Making animation using flipbooks was a great learning experience. The students were very enthusiastic and are excited create more in future.

Light Lines Up
Students tested the theory of light travelling in a straight line. They worked in teams and had to create a path using old CDs, pegs to hold the CDs in place, a torch and a target that they had drawn. They shone the torch from different angles to test this theory and it was proven to be true. Discussion about shadows and reflection became a topic of conversation and interestingly, students will be further investigating these concepts later in the term.

Art in Symmetry
During Maths lessons, students were investigating 2D shapes of which had rotational symmetry. They learned what the concept meant and how a shape can spin on an axis to help measure the rotations. To make this more engaging, students had the opportunity to create an artwork embracing the concept of rotational symmetry. Using a circle as the shape, students designed a fraction of the circle and repeated the pattern. It’s amazing how maths and art is all around us.

Mapping!
Our Geography lessons this term consist of studying the continent of Asia. Year 6 students have been learning about the location of different countries and some of the key geographical features of the continent have been looked at in detail. We will be further investigating into the lifestyles that different people lead in a variety of Asian countries and students will learn about the differences in population, employment, and ways of life. For this week, we have identified the geographical location of different countries located in Asia. For this, we concluded each geography lesson with an ICT mapping game such as the one below.

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullahi wa barakatuh,
All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and to all those who follow him.
Our Year 1 Students are focusing on the topic of ‘Ahlaq and Adab’ (Weekend Learning Series Islamic Studies Textbook). Our students have learnt about having good manners, kindness, sharing and caring. Our students watched a YouTube video on the smartboard explaining the importance of good manners and kindness which they enjoyed watching. Students completed the textbook activity tasks, and we went through the answers together as a whole class.

A Visit from Senior Constables
Senior Constables from Auburn Police Station visited our school on the 11th of August. They explained personal safety in public spaces and cyber bullying. Students gained insightful information regarding ‘stranger danger’ and how to ensure personal safety in the event of an incident. Some students had the opportunity to see the inside of a police car. Youth Liaison Officers are the key contact points between the local area police command and the Department of Juvenile Justice’s conference administrators who organise conferences.

On Tuesday, the 2nd of August, Year 6 ran a fundraiser where they sold Krispy Kreme donuts and Hot Chocolate drinks. The funds went to support the Year 6 Graduation and Yearbook. The day was filled with smiles and sprinkles!

Year 6 also ran a competition 'Guess the Lollies in the Jar' where students had an opportunity to estimate how many lollies there are in the jar. Congratulations to Kerem Er, the student with the closest guess!

Thank you to the Year 6 Committee, Mrs. Tekirdag and Mrs. Turkmen, for organising the fundraiser.

The Student Corner is a dedicated space for students of any year level to showcase their unique work and talents!

Dear Parents/Carers,
Maarif students are expected to wear their winter school uniform during Terms 2 and 3. Please be reminded of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s name and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.
Uniform Shop will be open every Wednesday during school term from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.
- It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
- It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
- It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
- It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
- It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.
