Monday Assembly - Student of the Week
To welcome our students for the new term, we had a morning assembly presented by our School Captains and Vice Captains with our Primary School Coordinator, Mrs Reyhan Er. We are so excited to see all the amazing work that will be produced this term.
Well done to the students who have been selected as 'Student of the Week' during our Monday morning assemblies. These students are selected for academic achievement and for modelling our school values.

Congratulations to the class KB for receiving the Star Trophy!

Also, Congratulations to the students who received Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards. Keep up the amazing effort!

Let’s read in our group!
KA students have developed good reading skills where they sit with their small group and read a page each. This not only develops their reading skills but also listening skills where they are given the opportunity to hear their peers read. The purpose of guided reading groups is for students to problem solve and practice strategies to decode words and read level-appropriate texts. The role for each child in guided reading groups is to apply the focus strategy to the process of reading the entire text and not just one page. Well done KA and keep up your wonderful reading skills.

CREATIVITY SPIN
Students in kindergarten were provided with different types of media to spark their creativity.
Whiteboards and markers were used with different stimulus prompts to encourage students to create something unique and special. Individual whiteboards provide students with an alternative way to demonstrate their thinking via written and drawn responses.
We love using our mini whiteboards in class!
T, T, T, TAEKWONDO!
Students at Maarif are participating in Taekwondo lessons this term with an emphasis on building fundamental movement skills like kicking. Students will be learning to develop the introductory components of the kick as well as other techniques.
Below are some pictures of our very first session!

Math Fun!
In Maths, Year 1 students have been learning about the importance of counting by 10s and partitioning numbers into tens and ones. Students participated in a range of activities to consolidate their knowledge of the topic. One of our favourite activity was using connecting blocks to partition different numbers up to 100.

Year 1 students had their first taekwondo lesson for this term, students over the term will learn different martial arts skills and self defence skills.

Brain Break
Year 2 have been absolute superstars so far this term and have worked so hard, so we implemented a class activity we call "brain break" which we do when students have had a long day and have done plenty of learning. Students are given some time during class to let loose and let out all their energy and enthusiasm through an inclusive class dance and activities. All students are encouraged to contribute and this allows them to sit back down, ready to do some more learning.

Heating up!
This term, Year 3 students have been learning how heat energy affects things in our everyday lives. To demonstrate this, students observed popcorn being cooked. They made predictions about what may happen to a kernel when it is cooked in a microwave, observed it being cooked and then explained and discussed the results. Once the popcorn cooled, students observed one piece, measuring, drawing and labelling it. Year 3 students were able to conclude that the heat produced in the microwave caused the kernel to open and expand, changing it into popcorn. Our lesson ended with students enjoying the popcorn that we made!

Round it! Move on!
In Mathematics, students of Year 4 focus on rounding to the nearest value to 100, 1000 and 10,000. To maintain their engagement, make the lesson engaging and enjoyable for students, students were provided with a board game to help them learn rounding, and their understanding of the content was well evaluated.

For creative art, students will explore dance this semester. I started by warming up and understood how to adjust the movements for dancing. The students actively participated in all activities. I was pleased that all the students actively participated.

An action-packed start to Term 3
Kicking of the term with Taekwondo was a buzz for Year 5. This week students learned basic concepts of Taekwondo including ‘Joon-bee’ which is the ready position. They then continued onto single punches, double punches, and high kicks. Students were thrilled to be engaged in such a physically engaging sport and showed great interest and respect.

Micro:bit MakeCode
This term, our technology lessons will be based on Microsoft’s MakeCode. The editor elaborates on the coding skills students are familiar with surrounding text-based code behind the blocks. Students created moving smiley faces and rolling names. They were also able to create a beating heart with sound or music.

Rotational Symmetry
Students are introduced to rotational symmetry through tangible learning experiences. Students traced a variety of 2D shapes and used a pin to find the axis and order of rotation. This provided great discussion about lines of symmetry relative to rotational symmetry. The next step will be creating an artwork around the concept of rotational symmetry.

Just taekwondo it!
Maarif students have commenced sport lessons this term with Taekwondo instructors. These sport lessons will implement martial arts techniques as well as those in self-defence scenarios. Learning objectives will be split into both physical and theory. Physical aspects of the lessons will consist of correctly executing relevant kicks and strikes, 4 basic taekwondo blocks, 4 basic taekwondo kicks, and advanced level stretching including balance, agility and coordination exercises. Lessons will also consist of drills to increase self-confidence and respect as well as informative lessons and reminders of no bullying and stranger danger.
I can’t wait to see students advance in these skills throughout the term! Here are some photos from our first session.

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullahi wa barakatuh,
All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and to all those who follow him.
Our Kindy Students are focusing on the topic of ‘The Character of the Prophet (saw)’ Watching Zaky – A YouTube video of ‘The year of the Elephant’ which the Prophet (saw) was born in. Our students have now learnt from the video and textbook that the Prophet (saw) was born in the City of Makkah and later moved to Madinah. Students completed activity tasks. Students also watched Surah Fatiha recitation on the smartboard for memorisation. Each student recited the first three verses without listening to the Surah.
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "If anyone recites a letter from Allah's Book he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward. I do not say that ‘Alif-Lam-Mim’ are one letter, but ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Lam’ is a letter, and ‘Mim’ is a letter."
We pray that Allah (SWT) allows our students to keep the Qur’an in the centre of their lives and let the Book of Allah be the light of their hearts.

Jazakumullahu Khayran.

Just a friendly reminder,
For families who are planning to take leave, please ensure to follow the proper process. Parents/Guardians must fill out the Student Extended Absence Application Form, attached below, in advance as well as proving the supporting documentation. When completed, please email it to Admin@maarif.nsw.edu.au. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact the school office.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Maarif students are expected to wear their winter school uniform during Terms 2 and 3. Please be reminded of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s name and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.
Uniform Shop will be open every Wednesday during school term from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.
- It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
- It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
- It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
- It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
- It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.

A necklace and another item of jewellery was found, please contact the front office on 1800 622 743.
