As we conclude Term 2, I would like to thank our students, staff and parents for their ongoing support and collaboration. Well done to all students who have come to school with enthusiasm, ready to learn. Students have continued to participate in curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout the term which they have demonstrated outstanding levels of engagement and creativity. These included clubs activities, class excursions and our weekend camp.
We were honoured to have distinguished guests from Türkiye visit our school this term. The MP delegation and Representatives of Turkish Maarif Foundation as well as the Ambassador of the Turkish Republic were welcomed warmly by our students and staff. They enjoyed the school tour and meeting staff and students.
Our PBIS (Positive Behaviour Interventions and Support) team have been working with all staff in modifying, building and promoting school-wide behaviour expectations. As the year progresses, our PBIS team will be gathering data and start focusing on broader trends which will help address the needs of our school.
I would like to remind all families that double parking to drop off and pick up children is not permitted and is illegal. Double parking creates traffic and a dangerous situation for students and parents. We cannot put convenience before safety. I appreciate your cooperation in this important matter.
I would like to wish all Maarif families a happy Eid-al-Adha - Kurban Bayramı which we will celebrate this school holiday break. I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing break and we look forward to seeing everyone back in Term 3.

Representatives of Turkish Maarif Foundation
On the 21st of June, Maarif had some very special visitors, the Representatives of the Turkish Maarif Foundation. They visited our beautiful classrooms and met our amazing staff members, teachers, and students. To celebrate, Maarif organised a staff barbeque, where the Representatives of the TMF were invited to join us for the lovely evening.

The Members of Turkish Parliament
On the 24th of June, Maarif was honoured to have Members of Parliament from Turkey visit our school and meet our wonderful teachers and students. The MP delegation was led by the former Minister for Internal Affairs, the Honourable Mr Efkan Ala and accompanied by the Ambassador of the Turkish Republic, the Excellency Mr Korhan Karakoc. Our students greeted the guest by performing a short folk dance and displayed greetings according to Turkish traditions.
The delegation expressed their gratulation to the Maarif management and staff for establishing one of the fastest-growing schools in Australia and reaffirmed their support for Maarif.

A Dwelling For Our Ducks!
KA students showed how creative they are by using tissue boxes and art and craft material to make and decorate a dwelling for their ducks. This activity allowed them to refine their fine motor skills as well as eye-hand coordination. They were really imaginative as they used the various materials for their ducks to feel cosy and comfortable. While playing with toy animals, children actively engage with speech and use it for role and pretend play with their peers. This helps to practice their language skills and verbalise their thoughts. Study shows that there is a strong link between "symbolic play" and language learning. Well done KA!

Patterns Galore
Pattern recognition is a fundamental skill that is covered in multiple Australian curriculum descriptors. Patterns play an important role in early mathematics education as they help children make logical connections and use reasoning skills to make predictions.
Patterns are found all around us. Kindergarten participated in play-based learning activities to explore the concept of patterns.

Drama Time!
This fortnight Year 1 has enjoyed participating in STEM and drama activities. In drama, students re-enacted the fairytale 'Three Billy Goats Gruff'. Students enjoyed making masks and taking on the roles of different characters.

Students were given the STEM challenge of which team could make the longest paper chain out of 1 single piece of A4 paper. This task challenged students to think outside the box and work as a team. It was amazing to see the results produced by Year 1. Well done!

Flip Out!
As part of our PDHPE module, Year 2 went on an excursion to Flip Out on the last week of term. Year 2 were so excited to move, jump around and to compete in all the obstacle courses. It was a wonderful way to end the school term.

Celebrations!
This term, Year 3 have been exploring celebrations and commemorations of significance in Australia and the world, including, Australia Day, ANZAC Day, NAIDOC Week, Ramadan, Diwali and Chinese New Year. As part of this unit, students engaged in a task where they were assigned a celebration or commemoration and addressed a number of research questions. All students did a wonderful job at presenting their research to their peers. They should all be very proud of themselves.

Lets Minion together!
Watching a movie promotes students' understanding and is effective in their learning experience. Stage 2 students had the opportunity to visit the Reading Cinema and watch the movie "Minions Rise of Gru". It was a wonderful and enjoyable experience, and students were able to analyse the structure of the text type of the story. It was a great way to end the semester.

Australia Poetry
In English, students have been engaging with lessons about poetry and poetic devices. With reflection upon how wonderful our country is, students wrote a poem, ‘Australia is…’ which was a free verse poem using poetic devices such as personification, alliteration, similes, metaphors and anaphora. Anaphora is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of each line to add an artistic effect to creative writing such as poetry. The students did extremely well with their poems and we share some with you:

OzTag
This term students have learned skills and drills of OzTag and it has been wonderful to watch their skills develop throughout. At the start of the term, some students were hesitant to engage in a game they had never played and in our final week of the term, I proudly witnessed mixed teams of boys and girls equally playing the game and showing great teamwork. In just a short time, Year 5 students have truly developed as players and in their own personal confidence and ability.

Happy Holidays
As we approach the holidays, I want to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the Year 5 families who support the students throughout the term in all their schooling experiences. Having a school built on such a strong community is a positive for all involved. Year 5 have had a year of ‘normality’ being able to attend face-to-face lessons without disruption and engaging in social play and sport once again; all important aspects of their journey of learning. Wishing all of Year 5 a safe and well-deserved holiday break; some of you are jet-setting off to Turkey and some of you will be here but most importantly, you will have quality time with your families, and I wish you happy holidays.

Celebrating Diversity!
Year 6 has been celebrating diversity and considering the way in which Australia offers such a multicultural society for us to enjoy. This week we have defined the word 'culture'. We have agreed that Australia consists of a multicultural society of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. We have also considered the hardships the people belonging to these groups had to endure. We decided to raise awareness for a group studied throughout the term in order to raise awareness of their personal experiences of democracy and citizenship, in particular, their human rights in a foreign country. A great amount of effort and thought was put into these posters, keep up the fantastic work Year 6!

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullahi wa barakatuh,
All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and to all those who follow him.
Alhamdulillah, as believers having faith and trust in Allah, we have overcome a very challenging term in which I would like to thank all parents and guardians for all their help and supporting our students throughout the term.
This term our students were covering topics from the textbooks of ‘Weekend Learning Series Islamic Studies Textbook.’ Our students from Years 2 to 6 have learnt about their faith, The 6 Pillars of Iman, the 5 Pillars of Islam, The Salah and Fasting.
Years 4 to 6 were reciting, practising from the Elif Ba book and students on the Mushaf in Years 5 and 6 practicing reciting Surah Naba with Tajweed. Students memorising short chapters (Surah) from the Qur’an was played and displayed on the smartboard throughout the term.
These topics had a huge impact on our students which made them more cautious and aware of their Creator Allah SWT.
Jazakumullahu Khayran.

The Student Corner is a dedicated space for students of any year level to showcase their unique work and talents!

Dear Parents/Carers,
Maarif students are expected to wear their winter school uniform during Terms 2 and 3. Please be reminded of the importance of naming all items of school uniform with your child’s name and class. This means that lost items found around school can easily be returned.
The Uniform Shop will be CLOSED during the school hoildays and will reopen from Week 1.
We consider that uniform is important for several reasons.
- It provides pupils with a sense of identity and pride in their school.
- It enhances the appearance of pupils and therefore the reputation of the school.
- It helps to instil a sense of purpose in pupils when they put on their uniform in the mornings.
- It helps overcome the worry about “fitting in” with fashions and keeping up with other children. All children feel equal and there is no stress, competition or worry for families about expensive brands/labels.
- It overcomes the problem for both parents and teachers about what is suitable attire for school.
On behalf of Maarif, we would like to wish our students a very Happy Birthday who have celebrated their birthday during the month of June and who will be celebrating during the month of July:
