Maarif Parent Information Night

Parents and guardians were invited to attend Maarif Parent Information Night on Wednesday 30th March 2022. The evening was organised to discuss ideas on how to support our school and build our school community. In addition, the evening provided opportunities for parents to be informed about all aspects of our school, to meet other parents, and school staff.
The evening included address from Mr Necmi Uzun, Managing Director of International Maarif School of Australia. The address included information regarding future plans, school facilities and education psychology. School Principal Dr Zeynep Yaseen introduced and welcomed the 2022 PNC President, Ayse Kizilkaya. In addition, Dr Yaseen also explained the role of the PNC committee.
Primary and Secondary School Coordinators Mrs Reyhan Er and Mrs Adeba Qasim introduced the main activities and supplementary programs implemented by Primary and Secondary School. PBIS team members Mrs Ulku Turkmen and Maryam Faisal introduced the PBIS initiative and explained the details of the program. Parents and Guardians were provided with light refreshments.
The evening concluded with parent and teacher workshop. Parents had the opportunity to speak with various staff, discuss ideas, and support strategies. We look forward to seeing Maarif families in the future.

Ramadan Iftar Dinner for Students

Iftar dinner was held to celebrate the breaking of fast at sunset during Ramadan. The program for the evening began with a Quran recitation by our Year 8 student Xavier Kaarsberg followed with the Adhan to break the fast. The breaking of the fast began with eating a date and a delicious meal was provided while teachers and parents helped to make it a memorable evening. There was lots of fun and laughter as the food was eaten, and we know that everyone enjoyed the evening.

Following the meal, our Year 3 and Year 6 students sang a beautiful Nasheed in Turkish and a very short talk was delivered to explain the importance of Ramadan and how the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad SAW in this holy month.

We would like to thank all staff and our parent committee for this great opportunity allowing us to engage and develop a greater understanding of Iftar dinner.
On the behalf of Maarif, we wish you and your families a blessed, fruitful, and rewarding Ramadan this year. Ramadan Mubarak.

Colours of the world!
To end Term 1 in KA, students participated in a fun activity called ‘The Skittle experiment’ where they mixed water with Skittles and watched the water turn into different colours. The students really enjoyed this experience as it taught them the concept of cause and effect. This is to help children recognize a relationship between two things, or when we demonstrate that one event is the result of another. Science seeks to explain and understand the natural world. Things happen for a reason: there is a cause for every effect.

S IS FOR SNOWMAN!
We enjoy being provided with opportunities to develop our fine motor skills by practicing how to cut and paste in fun ways!
Over the course of the term, students have engaged in wonderful craft-based activities using the focus letter of the week! This has enabled them to further consolidate their understanding of the letter and relevant sound.
Research consistently shows that hands-on experiences like cutting and pasting lead to more positive motivational outcomes for learning.

Fun with coding!
Year 1 have been exploring their final stages of their scratch coding project. Over Term 1 students have been learning how to use laptops and the difference software and programs. Students have been enjoying using the laptops to complete their scratch project. Students successfully coded their name and a character to move, rotate and change colours. Well done Year 1!
Here are some photos of Year 1 completing their project:

Technology
This week Year 2 participated in a fun activity for their final task in Technology. On Scratch they were required to create a creative digital and ‘alive’ poster of their name. They had to make one letter change colour, one letter move and add a moving ‘alive’ character.
The students enjoyed expressing their creative ideas and were all great at using Scratch.

Talented Taxonomists!
In Science, Year Three have been learning about how to group living things based on their observable features. To consolidate learning, students used their taxonomy skills to conduct research on two animals and create a multi-media PowerPoint presentation describing the animals’ classifications and observable features. Students then presented their research to the class, which has allowed them to build self-confidence and develop their public speaking skills. Well done to all students for their amazing work!

What are the Chances?
Year Three have had so much fun conducting chance experiments! Students learned about probability and how to predict the possible outcomes. They engaged in different chance experiments where they had to predict if something was certain, likely, unlikely or impossible to occur.

To conclude our Science unit on microorganisms, Year 5 made yoghurt as the bacteria that can be found in yoghurt in good for our gut. Students followed the recipe independently, waited patiently for it to set overnight and we had a very delicious end to our week.

Gold! Gold! Gold!
This term, Year 5 studied early colonisation of Australia, and this included the Gold Rush. We look at the perspective of the British and European people and how it had dramatic effects on Aboriginal people and their way of life. Here are just some of the wonderful presentations. Well done Year 5!

Student Iftar
Students were given the opportunity to have a whole school Iftar and it was so nice to see Year 5 students in this environment. Their happy smiles are attest to the evening that was had.

Act Responsible – Think Sustainable
Throughout the second half the term, Year 6s explored how and why people manage environments to cultivate and grow fibre sustainably. Students were required to plan and use materials to develop solutions for sustainability. They collaborated ideas and worked in pairs to produce a sustainable household item. Students presented their plans and products to the class and were able to showcase a model or remake of these sustainable items. We had some amazing sustainable items offered during these presentations such as edible cutlery sets, a magic mug, sustainable spoons, sustainable sandwich bags made from rice paper and wooden spoons.
It gives me such joy seeing students approach these tasks with great enthusiasm and present their ideas with pride. Here are some images of presentations:

We believe in the Angels and Books!
Kindergarten was very busy these 2 weeks learning about the Books and Angels of Allah. They were introduced to the most amazing book on earth the “QURAN”. They first washed their hands to be clean before touching this very special book, then given the chance to hold and touch pages of the Quran. Students were excited to see the Quran elhamdulillah! Please also take some time to show your copy of the Quran at home to your children.

Below are some photos of Kindergarten working on their Islamic Studies activity books:

Kindergarten also did a presentation to class on ‘Something which Allah has created’. Here are some of Allahs wonderful creations which they brought into class to present:

Congratulations to students Timurhan Mengi, Zara Rafiq, Yusuf Ozdemir and Hazel Mete for receiving a ‘Star Award’ from Ms Aksu. They received this award with a mini prize for collecting the most dojo points in class. Well done!

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim
Year 1 had a very fun week learning three important phrases we say to remember Allah when we do any work. Saying Bismillah (in the name of Allah) before starting anything, Alhamdulillah (give thanks to Allah) and InshaAllah (if Allah wills). Students played a guessing game outside, where I would give the a scenario starting with “I will say this…” and they will need to guess which Islamic Phrase is used for that particular situation. For example, “I will say this before I eat”. They will need to select the correct answer and stand behind the chair which has the phrase on it. They did very well in guessing when we need to say ‘Bismillah’, ‘Alhamdulillah’ and ‘InshaAllah’. They had lots of fun in the process!

Year 1 together with Ms Aksu and Ms El-sayed had the chance to create their own lanterns in celebration of the month of Ramadan! They also learnt the benefits of eating dates and received a mini Ramadan Mubarak gift bag of dates to eat for iftar time.

Congratulations to students Muhammad Fahme and Muhammad Kowaider for receiving a ‘Star Award’ from Ms Aksu. They received this award with a mini prize for displaying excellent manners in class this term. Well done!

May this Ramadan bring lots of happiness, prosperity, and togetherness for you and your family – Ramadan Mubarak!

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullahi wa barakatuh,
All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and to all those who follow him.
Alhamdulillah, as believers having faith and trust in Allah, we have overcome a very challenging term in which I would like to thank all parents and guardians for all their help and supporting our students throughout the term.
This term our students were covering unit 1 topics from the textbooks of ‘Weekend Learning Series Islamic Studies Textbook.’ Our students learnt about their Creator – ‘Who is Allah, What does He do and not do’ and etc... Students completed the activity tasks, and we went through the answers together as a whole class.
Students were also reciting, practising, and memorising term 1 short chapters (Surah) from the Qur’an which was played and displayed on the smartboard.

These topics had a huge impact on our students which made them more cautious and aware of their Creator Allah SWT.
Jazakumullahu Khayran.
