The Assembly Star Class Trophy goes to Year 1. Well Done!

We went to the farm!
Kindergarten classes went to the farm and saw many livings like chicks, cows and sheep. It was a very exciting day that allowed the students to have lots of fun in nature. They were transported by bus to the venue and later on enjoyed their lunch in the sunshine. One of the biggest highlights of the day was milking the cows, they will remember this trip forever.

FARM FUN!
Our excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm was a huge success! Students in Kindergarten were provided with opportunities to interact with farm animals and develop their understanding of farmers and their respective duties!
This experience enabled students to link what they have previously learnt during our HSIE lessons with real-life examples and activities at the farm.
We all had a truly wonderful day!

Learning comes in different forms!
Oh what an adventurous fortnight Year 1 has had, students have been learning in different environments through a range of educational methods.
The fun kicked off with our first excursion for the year, Year 1 went to Sydney Zoo where we participated in a workshop about the external features and habitats of animals. Students were given the opportunity to build animal habitats and explain why they have set it up that way. After the workshop we explored the zoo, looking at and discussing how the animal features are similar/different. Here are some photos from the zoo, be sure to have a look at how close we got to an EMU!
In Maths students were learning about informal units of measurement for length. Students were excited to trace their hand and use it to measure the length of the window, silverseats and the floor. We took our hands out into the playground and completed the task. Students in the following lesson traced their right foot and used interlocking cubes to measure the length of the footprint. Here are some hands-on experiences exploring informal units of measurement:
I am so proud of Year 1 students for creating a poster of reorganising the zoo and grouping animals according to similarities. Year 1 students presented their poster in front of the class. Well done for approaching the task with creativity and confidence Year 1!
World Kindness Day and Harmony Day were celebrated. Students participated in World Kindness Day by wearing crazy socks and completing activities which demonstrated being kind to one another. For Harmony Day students dressed in cultural clothing/ orange and brought some food to share with the class. We learnt the meaning of Harmony Day and celebrated the diversity within our classroom and the whole school.
To start Week 8 on a high, Year 1 won the Assembly Star Class Award. Well done Year 1 and thank you for always putting your absolute best into your work!
Mrs Rooba El-Sayed
Its time to Multiply!
This week, year 2 have been exploring multiplication in forms of arrays. Students were grouped and given rubber fruit to make three differing combinations of rows and columns. They were then encouraged to write down a number sentence which represents their arrays. Making arrays assists students in understanding that multiplication is repeated addition!

Our Trip to Sydney Zoo
Year 3 had a blast on their excursion to Sydney Zoo! Students enjoyed touring the Zoo and learning about a range of animals by observing them in their habitats. Year 3 also participated in a workshop delivered by a Sydney Zoo educator. Students learned how to use a branching key to classify animals in groups based on their observable features.
Students were super excited to meet Cuddly the Snake, a carpet python. I would also like to thank our parent helper, Mrs Bicici for her support and assistance on the day.

Eventful weeks!
In Year 4, students have been engaged with lots of activities. We had the privilege of visiting Sydney Zoo and attending an informative Aboriginal workshop, where we learned about Aboriginal history. It was a great learning experience.

During Anti-Bullying Day on 18th March 2022, students were able to take part in a webinar that discussed different aspects of cyberbullying.

Maarif School celebrated harmony day on March 22nd, a day dedicated to celebrating different cultures. Students got a chance to participate in activities that demonstrated respect towards other cultures and traditions. Each student brought their traditional food to the feast and shared it with the rest.

Fabulous Five
As the end of term is fast approaching, we reflect on key moments that have taken place and give a BIG congratulations to our announced Class Prefects Emre and Liyana. Well done to all students who took the time to deliver a speech and with confidence and courage.

Crazy Sock Day
As a school we participated in celebrating National Day Against Bullying and Violence with the theme for this year Kindness Culture. Year 5 students embraced the day of embrace and empowerment by wearing crazy socks to highlight our school being one of celebrated diversity.

School Values
Values are the heart of any school and this year for National Day Against Bullying and Violence, students took part in a poster competition which highlighted the Maarif values. Year 5 focused on ‘Cooperation & Solidarity’ and we started the task with defining those terms and what it looks like at our school. Cooperation for us means the ‘action or process of working together to the same end’ whilst solidarity is ‘individuals uniting for or with a common interest and mutual support’. We discussed these terms and values being relative to all stakeholders of our school community, staff, students and parents.

Portfolio Tasks
At Maarif, students work to produce portfolio tasks of the key pieces of their work each term. Year 5 are currently working on their final Creative Arts portfolio tasks and are taking to their work with pride. The portfolios showcase the students' academic work and effort and it’s so encouraging to see Year 5 approach these tasks with care and consideration as a true reflection of their knowledge and abilities.

I’m proud of all your efforts Year 5. It has most definitely been a busy term and you are trying your very best and your level of responsibility and independence is becoming positively obvious. Keep shining!

Year 6 Legends!!!
Year 6 students held a food stall on the 15st of March to raise funds for their annual commemorative jerseys. This was a great way for students to take responsibility and work towards raising funds for a memorable token of their last year in primary school before they venture into high school.

They had so much fun preparing the stall and selling delicious food that were both homemade and store purchased. I would like to take this time to thank ALL parents that took the time to prepare something big or small for the stall. It was a successful day and our students are now one step away from attaining their jerseys.
Here are some photos from the day.

I would also like to congratulate the following students for becoming Maarif Primary School Captains!

Drama Time!
Year 1 students did various drama activities this week. They used the costumes in the dramas about animals and had a lot of fun. During these activities, they started to gain self-confidence in Turkish. They learned new Turkish words with the songs and dances.
Year 5 students continue to learn Turkish songs and improve their Turkish vocabulary. They learnt information about Turkish culture through book activities and presentations. Students were provided detailed information about Turkey's geographical features and important cities. They also memorised the 3 stanzas of the National Anthem together.

We believe in the Prophets
Kindergarten is continuing to learn about the 6 Pillars of Iman (Faith). We believe all the Prophets came with same message and that Prophet Muhammad (saw) was the final messenger. Students had some time working on their activity books and had fun in beautifying with colours an ‘important message’ to take home to parents. We are also practicing saying the ‘Shahadah’ every week in our lessons Alhamdulillah. Please continue practising at home.

Year 1
Year 1 all love their creator Alhamdulillah, and now they understand that Allah loves His creations too! Allah has created many countless things and has many beautiful names. The Quran mentions the special people He loves, and we went through some of the things that can make us special too. Including being clean and being a good person. Here are some photos from our textbooks:

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmetullahi wa barakatuh,
All praise be to Allah (SWT) and may peace and blessings be upon His beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and to all those who follow him.
This week our Year 5 Students are focusing on the topic of ‘The Books of Allah’ (Weekend Learning Series Islamic Studies Textbook) how Allah revealed the four major books to His Prophets. Our students learnt the names of these sacred books and to whom it was revealed to. Students completed the activity tasks, and we went through the answers together as a whole class.

Students are also reciting, practising, and memorising Surah Maun which was played and displayed on the smartboard. Students are expected to memorise one verse a week. Every week in class we practice and repeat verses together.
Jazakumullahu Khayran.

Western Sydney Wanderers Soccer Clinic School Visit
Maarif students in years 3-6 participated in a soccer clinic run by the Western Sydney Wanderers coaches. The students focused on developing their fundamental soccer skills including ball control, striking and passing skills. The students enjoyed having the Western Sydney Wanderers coaches training them and teaching them new skills.

They also enjoyed versing each other in the mini soccer games. The soccer clinic was a successful, fun and interactive experience for Maarif students.

Celebrations and food
We love to celebrate our students at Maarif and accept that some families may want to share the special occasion of their child’s birthday with his/her class peers. As a school, we embrace this opportunity, however, would like to enforce a strict policy of not bringing in food or other edible item for these one-off occasions. It is important we cater to all students including those who have severe allergies by monitoring this closely.
If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday, we would suggest an alternative to food and we thank you in advance for supporting the health and wellbeing of all students.
Dont forget your Hats!
All students are reminded to wear their hats during recess, lunch and sport. Please also remember to send a water bottle with your child every day.

Labelling
Please ensure that all personal items (clothing, lunchboxes, bags, etc.) are clearly labelled with your child(ren)’s name. Each year there are numerous items of clothing, especially hats and jackets that have no names or identification in lost property.
If there is no name, then we have a difficulty finding the owner.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Lunch orders are to be sent to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to order for Wednesdays and Fridays. Make sure the envelope/zip lock bags have your child's name and class clearly labelled. Students will not be able to order lunch if they bring their order in late.

Safe Driving and Double Parking
Parents are asked to be considerate and patient during pick-up and drop-off times. Double parking is illegal and very dangerous in a school zone and will get you a fine of $344 and 2 demerit points. U turns: Illegal U turns in a school zone are dangerous and will get you a fine of $344 and 2 demerit points. Please drive safe especially in front of the school during drop off and pick up times.
We also would like to kindly ask not to park where the bus usually parks. (Located on the corner of Percy Street infront of the school gate).
We understand that these times of the day are frustrating, however, we must work together to ensure the safety of the children and all road users. Thank you.
