Sport is fun!
Kindergarten students had a great time during sport last week. We used the netball courts to divide the class into 2 groups and they versed each other in racing on how to bounce the ball to the white line and back. This allowed them to enhance their teamwork skills as well as gross motor abilities. Followed by this experience, students spontaneously drew the outline of each other’s bodies using chalk, some students continued drawing on the concrete and enjoyed the wonderful weather outside.

Feels great to be back!
Year 1 students have dived right back into learning at school. Students have enjoyed catching up with their friends and completing a range of learning tasks. Over the past fortnight students have practiced their addition and subtraction, creative art, technology, and basketball skills. Students have been collaboratively working together and have enjoyed their first two weeks back. Here are some photos of our first two weeks back:

Miss Rooba El-Sayed
Let the adventures continue in Year 2
It was all smiles as we returned to face-to-face learning last week and we could not be happier. Year 2 was greatly missed, and it was evident that they all missed each other. The first week back we focused on remembering our routines and settling back in. It was great to hear all the different experiences students had at home and to hear how happy they were to be back at school. Students also made a 2022 calendar for their fridges to thank their parents for supporting them during online learning. Below are some photos from our first week.

This week students chose a text to read independently depending on their interest and reading level. As a class we are aware how important reading is to help stimulate our imagination, expand our knowledge, increase our vocabulary, sharpen our memory, and strengthen our writing skills. Students have been eager to read their books whenever it is silent reading time and are all excited to finish reading their books. It is great to see year 2 reading for enjoyment and developing a love for reading.

WE’RE BACK!
Year 3 students were bursting with excitement returning back to face-to-face learning this week! Students were given the opportunity to catch up with their friends by doing some relaxing mindfulness activities. Students have shown great enthusiasm and motivation this week we look forward to finishing this school year on a high note :)

Back to face to face learning!
Finally the day come when we get back to face to face learning. Students of Year 4 were ecstatic to see their friends and teachers. They were given the opportunity on Day 1 to talk and share their memories of lockdown.

They enjoyed physical activity with their friends during sports. It was very pleasant to see their smiling faces and enjoying the game with their classmates.

Year 4 Teacher
Smiling Faces and Connectedness
The last time Year 5 students were on our school campus for face-to face learning was seventeen weeks ago and the enthusiasm and excitement displayed this week just goes to show the importance of connectedness. As we hit the ground running for this productive term, students will be given many tangible and tactile learning opportunities to encourage peer group work and to make up for the time they were away from their friends.

One of the most important tasks students engaged in this week was a reflective task, allowing students to celebrate their success and resilience through online learning and to be aware of the environment in which they learn best. Year 5 were able to identify the importance of being around their friends and working together. They also expressed their gratitude for being given more opportunities and access to resources in a physical school environment. As part of this activity, students collectively agreed on a new set of classroom rules and safety measures they could follow to ensure the best weeks ahead.

As we wrap up our Visual Arts topic, the students have been able to create masks and portraits using different mediums as well as build on their knowledge of different cultures and ceremonies across the globe including ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamen.

I’m looking forward to continuing to see these smiling faces, enthusiasm, and connectedness as Year 5 work with diligence to the end of the year; before their final year of Primary.

WELCOME BACK !!
We are so pleased to welcome back all year 6 students to school for face-to-face learning for their final few weeks of primary school. Although there have been major changes to the way we run our days, we are learning to be resilient during these hard times and getting used to spending more time with our classmates. Year sixes have been spending more time together over the past couple of days since returning and making the most out of their final days together.
Here are some images of our time spent together so far…

Republic Day is celebrated on 29 October every year in Turkey to commemorate the founding of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
This year we celebrate 98th Anniversary of Turkish Republic Day, the most important National Day of Republic of Turkey. We acknowledged the importance of day with some activities, songs and marches.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten students listened to the Cumhuriyet Bayramı song and they did colouring in and a cut & paste activity.
Here is the video of the song;

Year 3 students did a coding activity and found the hidden words. Then, they memorised the song ‘Cumhuriyet Özgürlüktür’.
Year 5
Year 5 students memorised ‘Cumhuriyet Oratoryosu’ and recited it in the classroom one at a time.
Year 6
Year 6 students recited the ‘İstiklal Marşı’ in the classroom one at a time.

Turkish Lessons - with Miss Esra Pamuk

For Years: Year 1, Year 2 and Year 4
Year 1
Year 1 played a lot of Turkish plays and listened to songs during the back to school week. They created various short dialogues by remembering what they learnt in the online period. They did drama activities with short sentences so they could use them in daily life. Students continued to improve their Turkish language by doing their reading homework while continuing their short spelling activities at school every day. All students did colouring in activities and listened to songs for the Republic Day.

Year 2
Year 2 started Turkish lessons with drama activities. They had a lot of fun by making short dialogues about how to make fruit juice, what recipe to use and how to sell them. With these activities, they both learned to establish a dialogue and learnt new words. While continuing their short spelling activities every day, they continued to improve their Turkish language by doing their reading homework. Republic Day was celebrated with small events in year 2. Students memorized the song "Cumhuriyet Hürriyet Demek" and did fun colouring in activities.

Year 4
Year 4 has continued with its writing work in the past few weeks. They categorized foods and created dialogues about healthy and unhealthy concepts. They played matching games about different food and had small competitions.
Year 4 had the Republic Day celebration this week. The importance and meaning of the Republic Day were talked about and painting activities were held.
Miss Esra Pamuk
Turkish Teacher (Years 1, 2 and 4)

Kindergarten
Students were happy and excited to return back to school after a few weeks in online learning. We have been learning the Pillars of Islam this term, and thanks to returning back to school they were able to do some of the actions of ‘Salah’ together. Students were standing in a straight line trying not to look around. They have learnt that Salah/Namaz is a way of thanking Allah, and as Muslims we should be thanking Allah for everything. Well done Kindergarten, for standing so well for salah!

We also enjoyed playing the ‘salam game’ outside (similar to duck, duck, goose). When the student catches their friend they say "Assalamu alaykum’, then thier friend replies "wa alaykum salam".

Year 2
Year 2 students are learning to understand who the Prophet Muhammad (saw) is and learn about the importance of following in his footsteps. They first listened to some examples of the wonderful manners of our Prophet (saw) in our lesson, such as his kindness and politeness to others. They were jotting down some of his beautiful qualities on paper while listening. Selecting just one of these qualities students continued onto our activity outside. With a piece of chalk in hand they traced their own footsteps then wrote a quality of the Prophet (saw), which they also will like to follow. In the following photo Halid is showing an example of some of the qualities the students have written on their papers.

We want to follow the footsteps of Rasulullah (saw)!

Year 3
Year 3 students have learnt about the ways Rasulullah (saw) treated people. They learnt that our relationship with Rasulullah (saw) is like a student to teacher relationship. They enjoyed watching the nasheed by Sami Yusuf - Al-Mu'allim, which means ‘The Teacher’. Link to video is below:
Students also learnt that we know that our Prophet Muhammad (saw) was a human and that he was not equal to God. Rasulullah taught us how to live a good life, which we will also endeavour to follow inshallah. Students enjoyed watching the following Maher Zain nasheed ‘The Chosen One’ and requested to watch it again when we returned back to class. It’s a reminder of how we should treat others, as all acts of kindness in this video is inspired by the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (saw). Link below:

Year 3 is learning to memorise Surah Al Asr this term.

In last weeks newsletter I had mentioned the 8 Billion Salawat campaign which was joined by Muslims all over the world. Mawlid an-nabi (Mevlid Kandili) was celebrated this month and our Year 3 students had read many salawat to commemorate.
I would like to congratulate Ziya Ciyim (over 6,000 salawats) and Aisha Maaliki (over 14,000 salawats) for reading the most salawat in their class. Both students received a special gift of a ceramic pencil holder which included a printed name of our Prophet (saw). Well Done!

Children love watching their plants grow from seeds!
Kids have an in-built curiosity about nature, and your own plants can be a fabulous way to introduce young children to understanding about how plants grow and the enjoyment of growing flowers and vegies.
Talk to your child about the natural world. Discuss the role of sunshine, water and soil in helping plants grow.
Give your child the opportunity to grow their own flowers or plants—one or two pot plants perhaps. This gives them a sense of ownership. They will love watching their plants grow from seeds or seedlings. If a child sees vegies and herbs growing and tends to them each day, this is likely to encourage them to eat fresh foods.
Take your child to choose seeds or seedlings that they will enjoy nurturing, such as herbs, lettuce, baby carrots and lavender. Think of interesting ways to plant them, for example in the back of a toy dump truck. A few painted pebbles placed around the new plants will make for a cute fairy garden.
