Finding 3D shapes
This week, our topic for Maths was 3D shapes. Kindergarten students familiarized themselves with names like rectangular prisms, pyramids, triangular prisms etc. As part of our Zoom session, they were asked to find 1 object in their household to bring to Zoom lesson where they can show their friends and teacher as well as identify the name of their chosen 3D Shape. All students did a great job choosing and identifying the names.
Learning shapes not only helps children identify and organize visual information, but it also helps them learn skills in other curriculum areas including reading, maths, and science. Learning shapes also helps children understand other signs and symbols.

Flying high in Year 1!
Just like that we are in Week 4! Year 1 has demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm towards learning throughout our Online Zoom sessions. In English, Year 1 students have been exploring superheroes and villains. Students began creating their very own superhero which they will later use in their narrative writing. It was amazing to see Year 1 students use adjectives and nouns in their descriptions.

For Creative Arts students explored how nature can be used to create artworks. Year 1 collected a range of items from their backyards and created a masterpiece using nature.

Our Future Olympians
Our students in Year 2 are aware that it is a tough year for everyone all around the world. This week we have been keeping Turkey in our prayers during our morning session and hope the bushfires in Turkey will be extinguished as soon as possible. Despite our current restrictions and circumstances, it has been great to see Year 2 students all being persistent and taking control of their learning during our online learning adventure.
For the past few weeks in class, we have been speaking about the Olympics as we find out new facts each day. We have seen how well Australia is performing in the Olympics and have witnessed Turkish athletes win medals, which has been inspiring for our students. To suit this theme, this week we had a special guest join our PE zoom lesson, head instructor Ihsan Deliktaslidan from Double Impact Martial Arts Auburn. Ihsan began his lesson with a warm up and then demonstrated some movement skills and movement sequences to our students. All students followed along and really enjoyed the lesson. After the session, Ihsan explained to students the importance of physical activity and treating each other with respect. Ihsan then set a challenge for our class to try to complete 10 pushups, 10 burpees and 10 star jumps every day this week. I am sure our class will step up to this challenge. Here are some photos from this session.

We Are What We Eat!
In our PDH lessons, Year 3 have been learning about what it means to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Students have been exploring the five food groups, focusing on their nutritional values. Students were able to identify which types of foods we should be eating regularly and what we should consider as ‘’sometimes’’ foods. Students consolidated their learning through an activity where they had to cut out different types of foods and glue them in their corresponding food group.

Best friends make good times better and hard times easier!
Teaching friendship activities, improves student’s social skills in and outside the classroom. It teaches them with the ideas of sharing, taking turns, listening, teamwork and cooperation. During this hard time, when students cannot meet their friends, Year 4 celebrated International Friendship Day by engaging in activities with their friends during Zoom session. It was fun and engaging for everyone. Some of their beautiful work is displayed below.

Zooming with Year 5
Students in Year 5 have been happily and eagerly engaging in their remote learning Zoom sessions. We are so fortunate to be able to use technology to engage with one another and continue learning important Stage 3 content and across all Key Learning Areas. Students have been on a journey through time and space looking at how artwork has changed over time and how important historical pieces of art can be to navigating our understanding of the world around us as we study more concepts of light to then analysing the 3D world, we live in.
We have also had great conversations about the Tokyo Olympics as we learn about the importance of teamwork through the You Can Do It! Program. Students have also had the choice of extending themselves in independent learning tasks such as the Athlete Profile. Once again, it’s been pleasing to see the level of responsibility, resilience, and determination that Year 5 students have shown. As they take lead of their learning from home, Year 5 students are positively displaying confidence and cooperation and solidarity; our Maarif school values.

Keeping fit and active!
Amongst the harsh restrictions and current lockdown experiences, year 6’s decided to complete a fun ‘would you rather’ physical activity session for our PDH/PE session on zoom last Friday. Students were provided with two choices to choose from which varied from categories such as food and transportation types. Once they had selected their choice, depending on what they had chosen, they were provided with a type of exercise to complete. This was a great opportunity for them to take a break from their screen and end the week on a positive note. We know how hard it can be during this time, especially for those parents who also work from home, to find the time to fit in some sort of physical activity. Students enjoyed this time and were able to show off their amazing skills and talents with specific exercise movements so we have collectively decided to incorporate this as a reward after our hard work in between online learning sessions.
A quick reminder that:
Taking breaks can improve your mood, boost your performance at work and increase your ability to concentrate and pay attention. When you don't give your mind a chance to pause and refresh, it doesn't work as efficiently.
Here are some images of year 6’s enjoying their online zoom physical activity session:

Thank you Kindergarten for always turning up to class and trying your best each lesson!

Year 2 students are continuing to learn about having good manners and this week’s topic was being respectful. Respectful to parents, teachers and even property. Students learnt the golden rule, ‘treat others the way you want to be treated’ and coloured their very own posters as seen in the photos. These posters are great to put on the wall, so it can always remind you to have your best manners towards others.

Year 3 students learnt many features of the Quran, such as it being revealed in stages, being easy to understand and a book which has come for all of mankind. They had a chance to show their beautiful Qurans in their homes, as seen in the photos. We had a look at the very first chapter ‘Fatiha’ together and see how wonderful these first 2 pages of the Quran is decorated. Inshallah they will all learn to read the Quran fluently one day.

Lets learn to read the Quran!
During our lessons we learn the Quran starting from the Arabic letters. Its important to also practice at home, so we are repeating and not forgetting what we have learned. I am sharing a easy to use, interactive Quran recitation app. Alhamdulilah, it’s an excellent app which allows your child to listen to the correct pronunciation of the letters and repeat after it. It also has voice recording feature allowing your child to record their voice and compare thier pronunciation of the readers. I really recommend this app as its free to download and very beneficial.
Here is a short introduction video about the “ireadquran” app:
I have included the links below.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=ireadquran&c=apps
Apple: https://apps.apple.com/au/app/ireadquran/id1003701018

For those who wish to access the lessons from a laptop or computer, please use the following link, as the audio lessons are available via this website: https://itqaanseries.com/qrme-book/

Thank you to all parents assisting your child with thier Quran reading journey.
Wassalam.

Breakfast provides the body and brain with fuel to start the day!
A healthy breakfast gives your child a great start to the day by providing energy and nutrients to fuel their brain and body.
Why is breakfast important?
Breakfast breaks the fast of the night, and provides the body and brain with fuel to start the day. Just like any other organ in the body, the brain needs energy to work properly. With growing bodies and developing brains, kids need to eat breakfast to be able to perform their best at school. Eating a healthy breakfast can help children to concentrate, increase their attention span and assist with their memory.
What should be in a healthy breakfast?
Carbohydrates such as wholegrain cereals and porridge give your child immediate energy to start the day. Proteins such as eggs and low-fat dairy provide a slower release of energy to fuel the rest of the day. Foods with natural fibre, like wholegrain bread and fresh fruit, give a feeling of fullness and help with digestion.
How you can help
- Encourage your child to wake up with enough time to have breakfast.
- Agree on some convenient and healthy breakfast options that your child enjoys.
- Lead by example and let your child see you eating a healthy breakfast.
Make it a shared activity
Eating breakfast together can be great for talking about the day or week ahead, what is happening at school and how they are feeling. This might be more easily done on the weekend if you have a busy morning routine.

School Fees
A reminder to Parents and Carers that Maarif is a private school and the contributions made provide opportunities for students to participate in a variety of different learning experiences. It is a requirement of a student’s enrolment that school fees are paid by Parents/Carers and failure to pay fees may result in the student’s enrolment being withdrawn. Scholarships are available to families who are suffering financial hardship and we encourage all Parents/Carers to apply for scholarships if they are struggling to pay school fees.

Online Learning
Students are expected to engage in Online Learning from home until we are instructed by the Government to resume normal operations at the School.

Remember to move!
It is important for children to continue exercise and movement during online learning for mental and physical health. Some suggestions are to step outside and have a stretch, play ball games with siblings, dancing, aerobics, going for a walk, etc.
