It has been a pleasure to get to know my students as they settle into Kindergarten. We have been busy getting to know our class rules and routines. Students have been exposed to a wide range of learning experiences through engaging hands on activities. Kindergarten is looking forward to an eventful term!

Year 1 have been given the opportunity to present their news on a weekly basis. Week 5 topic was about talking about your culture and bringing 1 item in to show the class.
Year 1 have also got involved in a Physical Development session of showing a variety of skills related to gymnastics. The photo below is showing year 1 class spinning on the floor with speed. They really enjoyed this challenge.
Year 1 also gets free reading time, when they finish their work early, they are given the opportunity to practice independent reading skills.
One of our highlight lessons is when year 1 class got involved with making shark fold out papers, they showed a high interest in this experience and participated very well

In Term 1, Year 2 have been working on Whole Number and Two-Dimensional Shapes. They have been learning how to count forwards and backwards from a given two and three-digit number. Also, to reinforce their learning, students have been using MAB blocks to recognise place value. As part of their learning, Year 2 students have learnt the features of a shape and are able to identify a shape’s name. Below are pictures of students learning about Two-dimensional shapes using their Signpost book.

This term, Year 3 students have been covering the topic of living things, where students have been learning how to group living things based on their observable features. Students have been engaging in investigations explored the school grounds in search for living things and were required to draw and label their findings.
Furthermore, during the school’s Picnic Day at Arncliffe Park, Year 3 were involved in a soccer competition for upper primary. Students participated in competitive games which determined the teams that faced off in the finale. Students played very well in a team setting and worked on developing their fundamental movement skills.
Finally, during week five, Year 3 voted for this year’s class prefects. Congratulations to Taha Aslan and Miray Durdu on becoming this year’s Year 3 prefects.

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to a new year! This term the students have been engaged in many activities and your continued support will be very much appreciated. The Year 4 students are integrating value of International Maarif Schools of Australia into their class rules using positive reinforcement.
For the first couple of weeks, schools can be challenging yet exhilarating for both teachers and students. Nonetheless, it was certainly a delight to be greeted by happy, eager faces ready for another day of meaningful learning.
This term, so far has been very exciting with having class prefect and school captain election, where students elected their leaders. this gave the opportunity for students to make a thoughtful choice in selecting their classmate to represent them.
Furthermore, we had an enjoyable picnic day at the local Arncliffe park, where students were involved in soccer and other physical sports. It was an entertaining day for students and teachers.
Year 4 are earning their rewards through class dojo and working towards class goals assigned each week. Looking forward to having a wonderful year with my amazing students.
Ms. Samira Asad
Year 4 Teacher

What a busy term it has been for the Fabulous Fives! Students were engaged in many productive lessons with Miss Kingston, however, sadly she has left us due to her health issues.
Here are the highlights of Term 1.
Students were able to make their own bread and observe the process, investigating what happens when yeast is mixed with sugar and what the best temperature is for yeast to be active during Science lessons. They have been very creative during Creative Arts lessons as they experimented with colours and techniques.
In History lessons, students explored the European impact on Indigenous Australians during the colonisation of Australia. Students particularly enjoyed taking on roles as film directors to create videos for their Personal Development and Health unit where they displayed their own management plans to help others.
Year 5 Students proved to be the leaders of the school by helping Kindergarten students with their transition and settle in to their classes.
Congratulations to our School Captains, Yusuf Sama and Nisa Bedir and our Vice Captains Hale Caliskan and Mansur Uzun. They have very important duties and responsibilities as they represent our school.
Well done to the Fabulous Fives!

We are all facing difficult and challenging times with COVID-19. It has impacted our everyday lives, including education.
As advised by the authorities, Maarif has also moved onto online education. We do realise and are aware that this transition is not easy. Students, teachers and parents have been adapting well to this new style of education.
We greatly appreciate your help and support during these difficult times.
Below are reminders on how to manage online education.
We are all in this together!

Kindergarten – Allah is our creator!
Here are pictures of Year five students assisting Kindergarten, to work through their activity books for the first time, tracing and colouring the things which Allah has created.
Year 1- Zaky visits our class!
Year 1 students were happy to see the "Talking and singing Zaky!" in class today. He kept us company while we did some lovely colouring in of Allah’s creations .
Here is Zaky showing Allah’s beautiful creations for those who want to watch:
https://youtu.be/gXQqXcXck4k
Year 2- The Quran
Students were excited to see the Quran in class! They got to touch and feel the pages of the Quran, and all had a chance to turn the pages to locate Surah Fatiha.
Year 3- Learning more about the Quran
Students learnt the difference between the Quran, a Turkish book and an English book in class. Students asked the questions to their classmates who were holding the books: What is the name of the book?, what language is it?, and is it fiction or nonfiction? They answered their classmates questions all correctly Mashallah!
Year 4- Made or Created
Students were learning that we as humans MAKE things, and that Allah is the CREATOR. Here are some photos of students working in groups, to determine if what's is displayed on the smart board is something made by humans or created by Allah.
Year 5- The Beautiful Names of ALLAH
Students were learning all about our creator Allah and His divine characteristics. Students have so far memorized six of Allah’s names with their meanings including: Al- Awwal (The First), Al-Akhir (The Last), Al-Malik (The King), Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim (The Most Gracious and Most Merciful) and Al-Hakam (The Best Judge) and Al-Ghafur (The Most-Forgiving).
In order to visualise the name Al-Malik, students have made from cardboard and other materials, a crown, similar to what a king would have. This crown helps to remember that Allah is the King, Al-Malik, who creates and commands whatever He wants.
Students enjoyed this activity, and designed their own crowns successfully as seen in the pictures. Well done year 5 for your great creativity skills!

TURKISH LESSONS WITH MRS AKDEMIR
Lots of exciting things have been happening in Mrs Akdemir’s Turkish class.
With the Kindergarten students, Mrs Akdemir is using Morpa Campus to teach literacy skills. Lessons are becoming a fun and entertaining adventure by using cartoon characters in the classroom. Kindergarten students started with ‘My First Handprint at Maarif’ activity.
Stage 1 students completed a craft activity where they showed their understanding of the time, days of the week, months of the year and the seasons.
Stage 2 students started ‘About Me’ topic which they had a chance explain about themselves. Students have also been increasing their Turkish vocabulary. They have been learning to label the rooms of the house and typical items found in a house. The students completed a labelling activity and designed posters to present to their classmates.
After each topic, Mrs Akdemir prepares Kahoot! which is a game based learning platform, used as an educational tool.
On the 12th of March, Maarif celebrated the 99th anniversary of adoption of the Turkish National Anthem. Students prepared posters and commemorated the poet, Mehmet Akif Ersoy. As memorabilia, Mrs Akdemir prepared special key rings for the students.

Turkish Teacher

TURKISH LESSONS WITH MRS AYDEMIR
Mrs Selma Aydemir and Mrs Seyma Akdemir have been co-teaching our Kindergarten classroom. Classes are becoming fun and colourful with our Morpa Campus application. Students build up their first Turkish literacy skills with this application. Students learnt many songs one of which is the days of the week. Classes have become entertaining with Turkish songs and cartoons.
Stage 2 and 3 students had plenty of fun time using the Kahoot game this term. Kahoot is an online educational game which allows students to revise the topics they have learnt in the lessons. Many students were competitive when playing the game but all learnt many new words and had fun while playing.
Students had many different experiences in Mrs Selma Aydemir’s class. They role-played when learning new topics, designed posters, watched videos and participated in group activities.

TURKISH LESSONS WITH MS PAMUK
Term 1 at Maarif we had a lot of fun with their Turkish Teacher Ms. Pamuk!
Stage 1 students completed craft activities while learning time and clothes. Students designed their own watches. Students also learnt about classroom objects. There were plenty of dancing in the classroom which made learning more enjoyable.
Stage 2 students started learning about the Turkish grammar and increased their Turkish vocabulary. Labelling rooms and typical items found in a house was another topic students’ have been learning about. Students designed posters for both the 99th anniversary of the Turkish National Anthem and Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs day to present to our school.
Our aim is "learning with fun" and therefore we use several types of educational tools with our learning, Kahoot is one of our favourite activities. Also, learning and playing different Turkish games in the playground was a fun experience.
Ms Esra Pamuk
Turkish Teacher

Maarif Student's designed their own posters for 18 March Canakkale Remembrance Day in their Turkish lessons.

23 April Turkey's National Sovereignty and Children's Day
At Maarif, students commemorated the 100th year of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, on 23 April 1920. Students were invited to get creative and participate in an online art competition showing the importance of the day.
23 April is National Sovereignty and Children's Day and has been recognised by the international community as a special day for children.
