Maarif Students had the opportunity to enjoy breaking of fast with their friends at school this year. Students were excited coming into school at 5pm. We started with the athan read by Year 4 student Ahmet Anmak and they had a nice soup and meal. We also had the chance to pray Magrib prayer together. Thank you for all students who attended, and may Allah accept all your good deeds.

The Mother's Day Stall was held on Wednesday and Friday last week and included a range of lovely gifts for special Maarif mothers and Grandmothers. All classes were had the opportunity to visit the stall. Students were very excited to take home gifts for their mothers, to surprise them on Mother's Day.

Learning with our Senses
Kindergarten students have been discussing what certain items are made from. They have touched base with hard, soft, flexible, and transparent objects. We played a game where students turned around and described the object they were feeling and smelling. They really enjoyed this activity. It has allowed them to understand how to describe materials and know their properties.

Little Explorers!
In Science year 1 students are exploring different materials and their uses. Students took on a scientist role and explored what will happen when materials are mixed. This was achieved through the process of making playdough.
Students have also explored different Australian coins and how to add the coins together. Students enjoyed going shopping in Coles catalogues to buy their favorite items!
Year 1 also continued exploring algorithms and sequences in ScopeIT. Students enjoyed the challenges that were provided during the lessons.
To end the fortnight on a high, Year 1 received the ‘Assembly Star Class’ trophy.
Well done year 1!

Please Open the Box!
This week Year 2 had a box arrive to the class that said "Do Not open the box Year 2"! Students had to write a persuasive text to convince me to open the box. Luckily, students have been learning about the structure, language features and purpose of persuasive texts this term, so they were confident they could convince me by completing an independent writing task.
After reading all the reasons students had written, I was finally convinced to open the box and inside was their Eid gifts from me. Year 2 did an amazing job independently constructing their own persuasive text. Well done Year 2!

Typing Experts
Year 3 have been enjoying using our school laptops during their studies this term. They are currently working on developing their typing skills. Typing is one of the most valuable skills that a child can learn. It can not only help them with their schoolwork, but can also set them up with an advantage in life when it comes to high school and exploring job opportunities. Students have already learned the correct keyboard finger placement used when typing and are excited to become typing experts in the near future.

Changing Matters
In Science, students of Year 4 are learning about three states of matter and how they change their states. This week students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiment where they mix solid and liquid and identify whether the final product was solid and liquid. They completed the activity as a group later.

Mother’s day
Students of Year 4 enjoyed making rock art and cards for their mothers. It was an engaging activity.

Year 4 Assembly
Year 4 proudly honoured their mothers in the assembly by performing the song ‘My Mother’ by Yusuf Islam.

Coding – Mathematics Meets Technology
In a world where technology is embedded in most things we do, it has been wonderful to see the Year 5 students engaging in explicit Coding lessons. They have learned that formulas are used to create and design technological programs. Students have picked up each skill quickly and build on their skills each week with specialised teachers.
The last two sessions have focused on using an ‘x’ and ‘y’ axis to code movement of characters. Not only are they able to create the code, but it has also complimented our mathematics topic of data and plotting data on various types of graphs. Students have been introduced to and engaging with negative numbers which allowed students to discover the symbiotic relation between maths and technology.

Time to Investigate!
Year 6 have been busy with learning over the past fortnight. They have been performing hands on investigations to apply knowledge and skills they have learned.
For science we have started our new unit ‘Change Detectives’ and students have been observing the changes of familiar substances such as water undergoes as it is heated and cooled. Students took part on a hands-on investigation to observe condensation of water vapour in the air into liquid and water on a cold surface. They extended their existing knowledge of changes of state to construct an explanation. They undertook an investigation that allowed them to observe the way in which evaporation and condensation of water occurs in the physical word and the weather.
Here are some images of our students taking part in the hands-on activity:

A big congratulations to these students who consistently completed their homework tasks and earning their Mathletics certificates:

Happy Mother’s Day!
What better way to make a mum feel special than to receive a lovingly handmade card from her children? It is a great opportunity to thank them for all that they do. Think about a message that they can hold onto forever, and that will encourage them to sit back, relax, and enjoy their special day to the fullest.
Maarif students made Mother’s Day cards and expressed their feelings to their dearest mums in Turkish.
‘Anne’ song was listened and memorised by students.

Here is the link to the "Anne Sarkisi" we listened to during class:
Learning our Colours

Students have been learning about table manners, including washing hands, and saying Bismillah before eating. We have practiced in class together how we need to sit when we eat, eat with our right hand, and to wash our hands before and after eating.
We have also learnt about what Eid is and how we should prepare for the special Eid Day. They have coloured in thier very own posters to take home, and showcase to friends for Eid. Well done Kindergarten for your lovely posters.

Year 2 and 3
Years 2 and 3 have learnt that Muslims around the world celebrate Eid after fasting 30 days in the month of Ramadan. We give charity and visit family and friends, celebrating this festive day with everyone. We listened and sang to Eid Nasheeds during the lesson to bring us joy leading up to Eid Day. NAPLAN testing has commenced this week. Students will complete testing on Monday.
Prior to the testing, Maarif students had the opportunity to practise NAPLAN key literacy and numeracy skills within their classes during the week, and also on Saturdays.

A big THANK YOU to the Caliskan Family for their genorosity in putting together lovely sweet and ZamZam Eid packs. They were individually packed and gifted to each student. May Allah reward them.

Eid is a festive time for Muslims, as we celebrate the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. We want children to feel this happiness and enjoy its coming therefore decided to hand out chocolates to all students a day before Eid holidays. We hope you are enjoying your Eid days by visiting family and friends. Eid Mubarak everyone!

Being on Time
Parents and Carers need to ensure children are at school before the school bell at 9:00am. In case of lateness, parents are required to sign their child/ren in at the office and children will then be marked as partially absent for the day.

School Fees
A reminder to Parents and Carers that Maarif is a private school and the contributions made provide opportunities for students to participate in a variety of different learning experiences. It is a requirement of a student’s enrolment that school fees are paid by Parents/Carers and failure to pay fees will result in the student’s enrolment being withdrawn. Scholarships are available to families who are suffering financial hardship and we encourage all Parents/Carers to apply for scholarships if they are struggling to pay school fees.

Bus Reminder
Students who travel to and from school by bus are reminded to follow bus rules whilst travelling on the bus. Removing seatbelts and walking on the bus is NOT permitted.

Students will be expected to be dressed in their winter school uniform during Term 2.
For all uniform requirements, our uniform shop will be open every Tuesday from 2:30pm-3:30pm. Please note, invoice or cash payment options are only available on the day.
