Finding Length
Kindergarten students have been involved in learning about measuring length for their Maths lessons. We have been discussing the concept of long and short and ordering length into height order.
Measuring length provides opportunities to develop cognitively as children strengthen both their number and size understandings. It also encourages them to place units end to end as gaps or overlaps between the units.
In this experience, students had to cut out the different buildings that consisted of various height measurements and then place them in size order by pasting them into their books. Great job Kindy!

All About the Facts!
Year 1 has been working on writing their informative text, we watched an informative video about the Life cycle of a frog. Students learnt how to create a mind map with different facts. Once students created their mind map they moved onto composing their informative text. Well done Year 1!

Ready to Publish!
This term year 2 have been focusing on writing informative texts. While writing we have also been focusing on the sequence of planning, drafting, editing, reviewing, and publishing our writing. This week students have been given the opportunity to publish their writing so we can collate their work and make a classroom book about animals. Students are so excited, they cannot wait to see their work transformed into a book.

Congratulations to all year 2 students who have been completing their Maths homework on Mathletics.

Living Things
In science, Year Three have been learning about how to group living things based on their observable features. Students were given a task where they had to conduct research on two animals and create a multi-media PowerPoint presentation describing the animals’ classifications and observable features. Students then presented their research to the class, which has allowed them to build self-confidence and develop their public speaking skills. Well done to all students for their amazing work!

Invention Time!
In science, Year Four have been focusing on Food and Fibre and how we can use different utensils for cooking. Year 4 were given a task where they had to invent their own utensils for the recipe they like to make. Students did incredible work on inventing different kitchen utensils and presenting them to the class. Well done to all the students, they should be proud of their work.

They also had the opportunity to create their own water irrigation system. It was a very well engaged and learning experience for students. They learned to plan together in a group and then make their model.

Gold Rush
Year 5 have spent the last few weeks discovering the history attached to the Gold Rush era. Students have learnt that Edward Hargraves was the first person recorded to have discovered Gold in Australia and that the Gold Rush era impacted the growth of Australia as a nation. Sensitive to the Indigenous people as the fist inhabitants, students have a balanced understanding and appreciation. The students were given the freedom to make a poster to summarise the important facts relative to Australia’s Gold Rush. They were given a series of questions to research and report on and given the independence to create their poster. Not only did this task give students a sense of independence, but they became agents in their own learning. Agency encompasses both the power of possibility in learning contexts balances with the personal motivation to succeed.

All my own work!
Year 6 have been focusing on research-based learning these past couple of weeks. We have touched base on the importance of ‘all my own work’ by introducing the term ‘plagiarism’. As a class, we discussed that the ability to firstly obtain or gather information through research and then summarise it in a clear and concise manner, demonstrates our understanding and skill of navigating through informative texts studied.

Çanakkale Victory!
We celebrated 106th of anniversary of ÇANAKKALE VICTORY AND MARTYRS' DAY on the 18th of March.
Mrs Seyma Akdemir and our school captains, Büşra Çiyim and Mansur Uzun, visited Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park and layed flowers at memorial.

On that day, the entire school stopped and stood silently for a minute of silence. We remembered our martyrs with gratitude, who sacrificed their lives for freedom...
From Year 5 students, Sare read ‘Dur Yolcu’.
Year 5&6 students listened and read the poem ‘Dur Yolcu’ in the classroom.

A poster with the important symbols of Canakkale Victory was made and displayed on the wall.

Turkish Lessons - with Miss Esra Pamuk
Year 1
Year 1 students worked hard in Turkish lessons in the past two weeks. As they came to the end of the term, they made an effort to finish their work on time. At the end of each lesson, they played word matching games with the interactive board. They learned dozens of new words, so they can start using them in their daily lives. Students this semester focused on Turkish characters and their writing. Next semester we will do more reading studies.
Year 2
This semester, Year 2 Turkish lessons became more fun with rhymes and dances. Students strengthened their vocabulary knowledge with word matching activities wand played at the end of each lesson. We organized short drama activities and learned how to meet, go shopping and ask something in Turkish. We look forward to new Turkish games in the term 2.
Year 4
We learned great songs in Year 4 lessons. While learning songs, we found the meaning of unknown words and added these to our vocabulary to improve our Turkish. In addition, one of our favorite activities was drama activities! We were able to develop our creativity and support our language improvement, by doing these drama dialogues.
We continue our listening and writing activities by using our interactive Book. We will be here again with great surprises for next term.

Kindergarten
Kindergarten have been learning in class about Allah being the creator of all things. Students were given a presentation task, whereby they were to bring and present “Something which Allah has created”. Well done to students bringing in a real-life example or a photo of an amazing creation of Allah. They answered the questions of what this creation is and how it lives in this world.

This week students also learnt about the “Quran”. They washed their hands nicely, and said “Bismillah” before touching and opening the pages of the beautiful book of Allah. We also had a chance to compare the Quran to an English and Turkish Storybook. This is to understand the difference in language, and that other books are make-believe, whereas the Quran are true words from Allah.

We had some fun making Arabic Letters with playdough in our Quran reading lessons. I called out a letter from the alphabet, and told them to make the letter as best as possible. Mashallah I can see from the photos below that some students are very talented in making letters out of playdough. Well done Kindergarten!

National Day Against Bullying and Violence
On Friday the 19th of March it was the “National Day Against Bullying and Violence” and as a school, it was important that we acknowledge this important message. Our wonderful teachers Ms Mehana and Ms Peach organised meaningful activities to be done in the classroom such as class pledges, student voices and a whole school mural which shows our school’s pledge to take action against bullying.
We held an anti-bullying poster competition where students created eye-catching posters which included this year’s message of ‘Take Action Together’. Students from all years entered the competition. A special congratulations to all winners and participants.
As you can see in the photos students have done an amazing job at showcasing that bullying is not ok!, and that we all as a team are ready to stand up for it.
Thank you teachers for bringing this message across to all the students.
Here is our lovely posters all made by our Maarif Students:
